just curious how long it takes folks to cut out a car body and what they use to route out the body.

Takes me 35min with a HF mini mill (a lot of that time just getting the rear pockets just big enough while not being too big). About 5-7 min to sand. Pre-covering takes me just about 45min per body.

How about you?

~ 3 to 4 hours (scroll saw, shape, sand, brace axles, and cover weight pocket) - to get it like I want it. Don't ask about fenders - they take longer :D

Takes me about a hour and half for ladder body. Bodies are 5/16" thick...I drill several 3/8 holes about 1/4" deep. Then use dremel with router bits to finish it up. Basic wedge takes less time.

The speed of the car isn't in how long it takes to build a car...

I always tell the cubs I coach. The faster you build your car, the slower it will go.

You will eventually rush through a process or miss a step.

I have a car that has taken me more than 4 weeks to finish so far..... mainly because I am not motivated. LOL

LOL!!!

Not for me. I build the car from the wheels, axles, body. It makes it a LOT easier.

For the 2017 MOTM, I built 20 car bodies. 9 of those raced in that race, and only two others ever made it to the track afterward. A waste of almost half of the builds.

That’s the other big variable - number of car bodies that actually move forward and race. Ignoring for a moment I am not racing at the moment - no more that 1 out of 4 bodies ever makes it through to race ready in my world.

"Cheat, Charm (the inspectors so they will pass you) and Crush Competion." I'll be watching for you. Thanks for the heads up. LOL
