Alright, after getting my rainbow pride on and taking a 4th whompin, I don't have besttrack yet, but my prep should of got me at least 2.9 something. So here is the breakdown and this is from everything I read, tools, and DD4H supplies I've used.

1) Suger Pine Block
2)Silver bullet to drill canted rears (using supplied Pin) Proxy Drill press/ 44 bit nose
3) Drill straight for front wheels.
4) wheel length straight stock (move rears a little further back)
5)DD4H fenders on rears only
6)DFW on right side (used bending tool from Goat Boy) 3 deg bend
7)Lift wheel is pushed in tight to body
8) Tungsten 1/4 cubes and putty - 3.1 behind rear wheel (all weight near rear axle)
9) COG 3/4 from rear axle
10) Drift 4inch over 4ft

11) Wheels Cheetah 2.0 new version
12) AXLE PROS 93 with groove cut
FOLLOWED DD4H DVD TO THE TEE (Yes I reversed the drill)
PREP:
1) DD4H axle prep kit (started with 2500, through 12,000) because of after market wheels
2) Finish with DD4H green polish, then string and then selvyt cloth with alcohol
3) Spray Dupoint on them let dry for 40 min to 24 hrs

Tire Prep:
Basically followed the DVD and I used the red rocket directions for the second coat and let cure for 24hrs.

4) added DD4H oil to the axle while they stuck out of the wheel well. Spun them

Tuned it on the board and then ran it 12 times down my plastic track 25 feet. The time isn't very accurate.
That's about it.

Sorry to hear you lost Sondo. I was rooting for you to get your Sub 3. Now you need to win and get rid of those colors..
puke

No Worries!!! I still have fun building the cars. Just like to see some improvement from it/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif That is a awesome new Avatar. The Hunger Games is a great series

Sondo, I think the biggest thing I found to get some speed was closing up my rear wheel gaps to around .010", freak coincidence or not, it worked for me. My times increased dramatically this month with just that adjustment.

Ya I forgot to add that. I did use the credit card method between the washer and the body. I was pretty tight on the rears, at least I thought I was. Thanks GX

Hey don't feel bad,my Eliminator car barely made it down the track....fish tailed all the way!

And don't even know what happened to my Unlimited car...didn't even get on the track...probably just as well! /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

I better stick to golf!

Without a track most everything is guess work. Your not the first or last builder to do everything right and still produce a turd. I do it all the time! The only thing I see is how you bent your axle. You MUST make a groove where you want your steer axle bend to be. Then clamp the axle in a vise at the groove and tap the groove with a flat blade screwdriver. This makes sure your axle is strait where it runs in the hub. Your grooved SS axle is bendy at the groove and you have to be careful. The bending tool looks like it will work on solid axles but I would still put a bend groove in them......

Couldn't agree with you more KHouse. I've been using the 92 axles and put a groove in them prior to bending them.

Switch to 92's, jig and close your gaps a little more. Are you tuning on a glass tuning board? Under magnification are you polishing all the machining marks off the axles?

Yes on the glass tune board
Gaps credit card gap from the white washer
Got the Jig Friday, going to test
Why 92's vs 93's
Thanks

Thanks. My oldest daughter said she would help as long as I ran the Hunger Games as my avatar and possibly on a new car to send in. I seen from Papa V there is a Sondo support group. Where do I sign up?

Guess us rookies need to stick together. If your looking for a low cost gap gauge, I picked up a 0 to .025 feeler gauge at local hardware shop for $5.

Any advice on how to measure the angle of the bend? Can I just use a protractor to draw out the angled lines on paper and eyeball it or do you need to be more precise?

I found a metallic protractor at same hardware store. It was aprrx 3 by 5 in rectangular gauge with a pivoting rule about 7" long. I used my dremel to cut a notch for the head of the axle. Sorry for no picture, I'm sure it would help.

I'll just say this. If your not careful when using ANY measuring tool to gap your clearance - you run the risk of screwing up your cone and washer polishing. Get good at setting your gap by eye. You wouldn't polish and prep your bore only to stick a metal or plastic plug gauge in there would you? Once you have the correct equipment and products it's the combination of all the TINY stuff that speeds you up.

Bracketracer - The tighter the tolerance the wider the bending groove and lesser the angle. You don't want to force your wheel over your bent axle. I have bent the axle at a high angle only after putting the wheel on first. But then to reprep you must bend the axle back to slide the wheel off. Then start all over again.

OK, this is funny and heart warming at the same time! So my son knew I was going to be racing today, but he was at a birthday party all morning and most of the afternoon. So, when I went to pick him up the first thing he ask. Dad did you win? I said no son not this time/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif He says, That's OK, you can have one of my trophies from this year
kisses
You know you just got to love a kid like that. What's sad is next time I'm online, how do I explain "Rainbow Pride"
