I have misplaced my new carbide brill bit. I am gonna try to order one in time for a build but is it necessary when using goat boy block? It should still track straight with that block, right?
I realize that it can deflect when it gets deeper, but if it starts straight shouldn't it stay tracking
correctly with the block guiding it?
I still wish I had the carbide bit, for extra insurance.

I believe you should be OK using a "standard" drill bit when using the GB drill fixture. There is enough "guide" in the tool to minimize or eliminate drill wandering. You are drilling this out by hand, with a pin vise, right?

Yes, I do have a pin vise. But on another note, will a small cordless drill run at a slow speed
wear out those bushings? Seems like if the torque was set real low on the drill it would not be a problem.
But I still plan to drill with pin vise.

I agree totally with Pony express. I had one where the bushing or something was not aligned properly, could not find a drill bit that fit properly which resulted in metal flakes cooked holes. Goat Boy replaced the defective bushings and everything is straight, drill bit fits in smooth, and no flakes. Carbide against carbide equals metal flakes. Be careful.
