We are preparing for my son's fourth Pinewood Derby he decided to move away from the cool cars and go for speed. I have found over the last few years that I enjoy carving these little gravity hot rods. When looking at my sons Hot Wheels I was inspired by the Darth Vader Corvette (Google the car if you have never seen it) to push my skills to the limit and make myself an entry for the parent/leader division. I will update with progress pictures as I go.

Nice to see something other than a wedge! Good luck and enjoy the time. If possible, second what Rocket said. Hollow out if you can.

Keep us posted.

Definitely !

If you are not carving from balsa and using a plank chassis... hollow it out as much as you can.

I carved a Nissan GT 2020 Concept car two years ago, and I was only able to add less than an ounce of weight after... not a good race...

BUT IT LOOKED GOOD !

I plan on hollowing it out as much as possible, it is all pine so I will have to take some wood out to get the weight down. Those pics are from last week, I have made some progress since then and I will load the pics as soon as possible.

Bama

Here are a few update pics. The blue tape is used to provide and esy to see line for me not to cross when I am carving and sanding to shape.

The final pic is to show what I hope it will look like when complete.

Bama, progress is coming along pretty good. You've got some skills. Mojo, lookout!

Look out????

I am cheering him on ! I want to see this thing !
Oh I agree there! I was just poking some fun because I know you are real crafty yourself when comes to carving out a car from a chunk of pine. I was trying to indicate you had some competition for a Show Stopper car. Apparently it didn't come across as I intended. I thought just saying "lookout" was a lot easier than writing all these words. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif There! I'm out of breath now. LOL

Lol! I'm guilty of that to a fault. That's why I usually get taken the wrong way.

Paul, I took no offense... I was kinda goin along with you.... evidently my response sounded a little defensive (sorry bout that)

I like the idea of this car, and was literally thinking of making one because of how cool the things is ! ! !

If Bama wants to enter it in here tho, that is his idea, his run... I will have to find something else to make it fun.

I will find another cool Hot Wheel type car... LOL

I appreciate y'all saying nice things about my work. The painting part is what I will struggle with. I haven't done enough painting to be able to lay down real smooth coats. I didn't discover I could carve wood until my mid 30's and I had no idea how soothing it could be. Now if I can just figure out the best way to make it a career.
