DFW entry point

Hi, i,m new here and have a question for the pro's out there. Helping my grandson with his car and reading all about the angles of the DFW and wondering if the entry point of the DFW on the block is

1 better with square edge, (i.e. at 90 degrees to the track) OR,
2 better with angled edge (i.e. at 90 degrees to the axle shaft and paralleling the inner wheel hub) OR
3 coning the body so wheel rides on radius surface (be like a ball and socket) ?

Thanks, Rick

If you make the side of the car at the same angle as the dfw then you have more contact area. If the body is square and the wheel is canted then all that contacts the car will be the lower portion of the inner hub on the dfw and the upper portion on the rears.

Yes
, thats what i was thinking. But with rotation for steer, would that also have to be compensated for or is it too small
of an amount to worry about? And, as far as the rears, would they not run against the axle heads with a 3 degree cant and therefore not be an issue? Thanks again

If you have to run it on the body then leave the body with a square edge and don't worry about the angle for steer. Just make sure that area is as slick as possible. The guys that run league can use spacers so they run a Teflon washer in that area.... You are right about the rears, they should never touch, but if they do you want that area to be smooth too... With a rough track or because of wiggles the rears could touch the body.

Would a little clear nail polish added to contact points be beneficial or just graphite applied to body? Sorry for the dumb questions, just wading through the info and trying to separate BS from proven techniques.

Yep car is painted.....got 2nd in pack and lookin to kick butt in distric etc. Paint was acrylic enamel, took forever to dry (like 4 days) but what a beautiful finish, best of all grandson did the painting.

If your car is painted you don't need nail polish the paint will do the job. How thick is the paint, that it took four days? lol. I've put on thick paint before, but four days, that's a long time. Just rub some graphite at the contact points and you'll be golden./images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

LOL paint is actually not that thick, recoat was within two hours but all coats needed 4 days to cure. As i said the finish was awesome from a 9 year old, guess the kids got talent. thanx kinser
