different wheel diameters on same car

Nice! I'm confident that something will click and I look forward to your ideas.

The DFW wants to be a nimble creature.

My feelings are that she dreams of being a gymnast, compared to the rears that dream of being steam rollers.

Nic's Dad,

I love the way you think!

Perhaps some sound equipment focused on that area too!

This would make for some awesome footage.

Why thank you! Just wish my wife felt the same- she thinks I've lost my mind! What the car needs is a built in richter scale sensor or a pressure sensor built in where the wheels rubs the body. Nic loves this video, enjoy!

Hey Nic's Dad,

That was AWESOME!!!!!! Nice Job!!!!

Please do the PWD community a favor and send that car to Bracket.

If you do, I am confident that there will be tons of footage on a track with a guide rail.

Please post any photos of the actual car or build in progress. The video looked great!! Nice angles.

Joe, I wish I could take credit for the build. This video was something Nic found online and shared with me. Someday we will build one but for now we're still learning the basics of prep and alignment. His mother would flip her lid if we mounted a camera on a car this early in the game. Greg

That's an interesting vantage point as the cars make their way down the track. Let's get with NASCAR to get this set up.

lol

Aww man. This is an easy one. If anyone has one of those fancy little, tiny, cameras...

Oh heck, just tape it to the hood of a car and let it roll.

Or send the camera to someone with a ramp.

I betcha a bunch of fellas know a video editor or two.

There is a guy I know that might do something for free.

Perhaps one of those zip lines like they have for camera work in the NFL would be interesting.

Uhgg, 3:30 in the morning- cant sleep cuz that shaved DFW won't stop spinning in my head.
The way I see it is a professional driver of a rear engine car needs to chime in and share what it's like when cornering sharply and the front wheel gets loose.

I like the idea of a camera on a zipline, that would be some amazing footage to watch! I'd also like to see a plexiglass track with a camera view from underneath, or a clear wheel with a close up view of the axle/bore interface with the footage slowed way down.

I must say, pondering the different possible diameters and inner lip shape designs for that wheel has increased my respect tenfold for that wheels responsibilities. Never realized just how much is asked of that wheel.

Wonder how a softer plastic Awana wheel would hold down the job as the DFW? Maybe graphite lube instead of oil since the load is lighter.

Hey Eccentric,

I had a similar idea awhile back and posted the question asking about a softer wheel up front for more gription on the rail.
GX responded that sliption is what I am looking for.
5Kids painted a very clear picture for me by explaining that with the back wheels rolling forward and the front wheel rolling diagonal, the DFW wants to slip and roll, not just roll.

Kind of like roller skates on a hockey rink. (I am paraphrasing)

I guess that would mean that the slipperiest wheel is up front. So far I have only gotten BSA wheels and Max V. I had high hopes for the MV wheels due to the mass being more centralized, but soon realized the limitations of the wheel due to the softer/ cheaper material it is made from.

More like a coffee cup lid than a candy coating.

I would really like to look at some of these other wheels that are legal to race. RR, Awana, etc.
It will probably amount to little as I am sure that many have tried this type thing but everyone still uses BSA.

Laserman, thanks for clarifying and all the pointers. Lots of little details to look out for, it definitely seems like BSA is the way to go. Roller skates on a hockey rink- now that could get dicey- sounds like fun!
