Distance between axles

I just reread our pack rules. The rule about wheelbase says "distance between axles cannot be changed. It doesn't say where axles have to be. Just that wheelbase must stay the same.
My question is; When I order a plug n play block from DD4H, and get him to drill axle holes, would it help to get him to drill the holes farther back; ie... move the wheelbase more toward the rear of the block?
I have heard of builders cutting some off of the rear and gluing it back to the front. This would do the same thing but without all the trouble.
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks, Scotty

I have question in reference to the 4 3/4 wheel base. Can a 4 3/4 wheel base car run with an extended wheel base car. I understand the extended wheel base will have more stability. Guess what I am asking if we my son and myself build a 4 3/4 wheel base for NPWDRL races will it be competitive. Or should we just build extended wheel base car and learn from that.

Thanks

It's a pretty specific rule and is subject to some interpretation. I'd would want to be certain that some yahoo that's inspecting it doesn't DQ you guys for doing it. If you're sure you won't get DQ'd, definitely do it.

As long as the rules don't state "the slots must be used", you'll want to drill the axle holes. To check the rule above, a lot of Packs/Districts will use a box with gutters placed 4-3/8" apart that the wheels will fit into. As long as the wheels go into the gutters, you're good.

When you order the block from DD4H, do have the rears drilled at the back of the block. Make note, too, of whether or not you must have four-wheels touching.

If you have to use the slots, then you would cut off one end of the block and glue it to the other to get your rear wheels at the very back. I expect that DD4H can provide you a plug-and-play car with the slot cut in at the rear (I am only guessing) this.

Whatever route you go, John (DD4H) will be able to answer your questions and get you the right stuff.

You might buy the super car with altered WB from DD4H and also do your best with the kit passed out. If the moved wheelbase is DQed, you have a back up- and many District races are open to all registered Scouts and are way less picky about the rules and allow a new car to be built to District rules and your chance to pick up a nice trophy are good.
