When people found out lighter was faster/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
For really strict rules where you can only lightly sand the OD you would run 1.180 wheels. For rules that are more liberal you would run 1.170 wheels which will gain you a little speed.
You always want to pick the lightest wheel you can for your rules.

Eliminator: The size difference comes from the difference in how much is taken off with the lathe at the after market race shop not the manufacturing.
