Feedback for our Rules

Here is a draft for our district's rules for next year. Let me know what you think...they clear enough or we need something more. Thanks.

I wish our rules were so clear. My only question is that it says nail type BSA axles are to be used, so no vendor axles I assume? The only reason I question is that BSA axles are always nail type.

I like that it states no vendor cars but how do you enforce that? I know our districts had at least a few vendor cars and the inspectors couldn't do anything about it.

I see two areas that are vague.
Axles, I read it as aftermarket axles are ok. I would word it as either they are or are not allowed.

Washers, I read it as they are allowed if they’re on the body. It only says they can’t be mounted on the axle or wheel. If you don’t want washers allowed, word it that way.
Everything else looks pretty good. These rules are very close to the ones I made for our Alpine district race. Allows more freedom & you don’t have to worry so much about anyone cheating.

As far as axles rule.....as it is stated...nail type BSA axles....is there room for bending this.....maybe

You are correct on both.....I just left wording that way to see how well people read things.....guess it's kinda dirty but jey its a draft copy lol

I may allow the under body light kits to be turned on....had a couple of them at various races that I ran and none of them messed with our timer. Guess I need to add cars must be built from the Official Grand Prix Pinewood derby kit and fix the axle section accordingly.

Well all this looks like it was for nothing. We was informed today that we would no longer be allowed to be Pinewood derby chair for our District. We was informed that all District positions must have new people every 3 years. They claim that's the way the council wants it. Funny thing is I have never seen any bylaw or rule for this anywhere in BSA rules and regulations or the DISTRICT handbook for operations. We done it for last three years and the guy before us did it much longer than that. We can still help (go figure since we own the nicer track compared to old wood track they have)....
Uhhgg the ugly head of politics

Sorry to hear that, I was reading the rules and had some thoughts.

BTW, I noticed your district. My brother lives in Bethalto. His girls aren't in Cubs, but his son probably will be when he gets old enough. We grew up in O'Fallon, both Eagle Scouts. I'm in Decatur, IL, part of newly annexed GSLAC territory.
