So the family is looking to get our cars ready for the next NPWDRL. The wife and I are going to run BASX and the oldest Boy and Girl are going to run their AWANA cars in Street Stock to settle a grudge.

I made a jig to cut out bodies. Worked pretty good on the first one still have to check the repeatability.

I think the pockets all came out great. The hardest part was sanding to the final thickness. I did the drill after cutting pockets because I accidentally drill the first set of holes on the wrong side. (Figured I'd learned my lesson after doing it on one of the awana cars.) The front got pretty thin during sanding which was the goal and cracked a little bit. I think some CA glue should fix it fine.

While putting a pin gage in the hole for the DFW I cracked the bridge. I've redrilled it to clean it up and figure some CA glue at the bridge and some clean up mill work for it. The rear drill is pretty good. Is it worth salvaging the front or just pass and hang it up?

I just learned about the world of league racing so NPWDRL seemed to be the first one I'd be able to get a car ready for. I plan to do the April race here.

You dont need to get so thin...9 or 10 gram body for basx is fine..i would redo them and make littler thicker so they dont break out
 
Agree with TRE....you want low weight, but also some rigidity. Too thin/light and the body will flex. I don't have a measure that works, I do it by hand and feel. Lateral flex, vertical flex and torsion flex.
 
I would relieve the holes before shaping.
This is my process, I drill, relieve the holes, route out my weight pockets & center then shape. Others do their drilling after routing.
Personally, I’d rather know I have a good drill before doing all the work.
Tre is right though, you’re awfully thin & risk breaking the car on wheel install & removal.

After this body the last few I've been drilling the holes and then gently installing an awana axle then gage pin to check the alignment prior to routing out the weight pockets. By installing the awana axle my goal is to clean and open it up so the 93TX axles will fit just snug enough.


I'm 5 blocks in and almost have 2 blocks that'll make the cut.
