My son (now 11 and a Boy Scout) and I are going to send in some of last years cars to get a baseline. Some of you has asked that if/when we made that decision to let you know. So here it is ...we are sending cars to the NPWDRL this January. We have been very busy helping out the Cub Scouts, and we are just about finished with that. A big shout-out to IBM Racing for help with the tooling for our Cub's! His generosity cannot be overstated!
We are hoping to get a baseline on several cars, so we have an idea just how far off the pace we are. Two of the cars are lead weighted, one of which was built by a 10 year old, only one has 12 cubes aft, one has 10 cubes aft along with a 5 1/4" wheelbase. They all have 2.5 - 2.6 gram wheels and non-grooved BSA axles.
I do know this, building these various cars with different weighting, wheel base, body design, and alignment setups has taught me to consider many things about a build. I probably would not have considered all of them if we had gone down the path of only one style of build.
Anyway, back to racing ...if we are too far off the pace, then we will most likely just continue to help the Cubs with their racing. If things go Ok, then we may have some time to start building cars to continue racing.
Looking forward to seeing you on the hill and the rear of your cars!
We are calling dibs on a couple of the last spots n BASX AM.
