Foil Tape on Bottom

In the first Fire Series Race I sent in one of my BASX cars with foil tape covering the bottom of the car, it was about 6" long and pretty much ran from the rear to the front wheels.

The foil tape is pretty heavy, and I'm wondering, should I be using a lighter weight tape for the front of the car? Should I just use the foil tape to hold the tungsten cubes in?

I had the same concern. I now Cover everything except where the weights go with a light Monokete for model airplanes. I then use the foil tape for the weights.

I don't even use foil tape...

I found a vent duct tape in Lowes that is very light(next to the heavy foil tape), that is comparable to or lighter than packing tape, and it uses a strong adhesive like the heavy foil tape.

I think it is 3M 3350 foil tape. I use that to cover the bottom and to cover my weight section.

Give it a look...

I think it is close to $10 a roll but you get a lot on there. very handy stuff

I use a UPS shipping label to cover the bottom of the car ahead of the weight pocket area. Works great and very lite.

Thanks for sharing your ideas guys ! One kind of sideways thought though - if you are talking about wt pocket cover, weight is probably not the biggest concern because it is the place you are wanting the weight to be.

Weight pocket- foil tape for sure. Anything forward of the weight pocket- I like to use a painter's masking tape. Where the painter's tape meets the front of the car, I use a clear Scotch tape over the nose to prevent peeling. It has worked great for me.

Pardon this newbie question, but Is the tape primarily for aerodynamics or weight retention?

Many league cars are hollowed out to reduce frontward weight, with this done you need to cover all holes where the wood was removed to keep the aerodynamics in place
