Our scout car ended up weighing 34 grams on the front and 123 grams on the back. We only have one scale,so we position the opposite end of the car on a block thats the same height as the scale. I hope the front end isn't too light. Our car last year weighed 41grams on the front. What do the Pro's think, is the front too light? We pack race on a wooden track, but the district race could be wood or aluminum.

Actually, I think 34 grams is very conservative.
That is equivalent to about a 1 1/16" COM, if you are running a 4 3/8" wheel base.

MWD

Wheel base is 4-3/8". My COM is 5/8" (from the center of the rear axle slot to the balance point). I don't know how our numbers are so different. Are you checking COM without the wheels on? No way our COM is 1-1/16" with a standard wheel base.

Trick question ? Something is up with your wt numbers Savageone. They add up to over 5.5 oz.

For standard WB and 5/8" COM, we would expect closer to 20g on the front wheel(s). I would expect a range of 5/8" - 3/4" for a competitive Scout car with the Std WB.

Trick question has something to do with using one scale. The total car weight is 139.1 grams, but when I weigh one end at a time I get 34g frt+123g rear=157g total which is not the true total weight. When you use one scale both the front and rear weights added will not equal the total weight that the car would weigh when the entire car is on the scale.

I have never weighed my front and rear. I don't think it matters. Just stick with what COM you have and adjust it to the track your running. If it's a rough old wood track get closer to 1" COM. If it's a nice Best Track stay where you're at and you'll be golden. Just my 2 cents.

+1

Especially if you only have one scale !!

My boys typically had 3/4" COM with Std WB and 1/2" COM with Ext WB on a decent, but not perfect wood track.

I do always check each wheel though because I am always curious about the affect of left/right weighting on the rears.
