Greatest "How Not To" Tutorial Ever!

Not trying to bust any bubbles here, but do you think the tape edge is causing the car to "toe the line"?

I'd be a little concerned that the wheels didn't appear to migrate at all over that far of a distance. He has the axles sticking out pretty far but the wheels appeared to keep to the body?

Rear axels have no cant (as suggested by other racers for RS wheels) so they don't migrate out much.

Is this the car with the incorrectly bent axle?

If your racing with us, ditch the NDFW and use a guide pin. Bend the over bent axle into a guide pin and use the other one to bend correctly.

Yes it is. I think I have the issue fixed (see new video).

I might try the guide pin on some future car, right now I'm learning (the hard way it seems) on a pretty small budget.
Need to read up on the whole guide pin thing.

Took a little Micky mousing, but think I resolved the steering axel issue enough to get by.

You gauge the steer by referencing the distance the DFW travels, not the center of the car. The starting point of your inch marks don't start from the center of your car, they start on the edge of the board where your DFW is starting as well. So looking at your video it looks like it traveled pretty close to 4"

Ok, I wasn't 100% sure on that. So given that, I'm pretty close.

Thanks for the info /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Well it's official now, just registered my cars for Mid America / Pinewood Nationals.

Registered as Adult Non Pro, but I didn't see where to select the cars class?
Are there more forms coming? Or do I mark the boxes somehow?

With luck the last parts I ordered will get here soon and I can get the cars dialed in best I can.

Will ship in a big box so there's room for ALL the trophies !! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif (wishful thinking).

I believe "Open Adult Division" is only allowed one car per person so if you're registered, you're set.

Edit- yeah, it says in the rules "One car per person in each Division.
  • *Except Pro Division (unlimited number of entries)"

I have two cars and registered them both in the Open Adult.
I sent an email to Greg to see if I can fix the issue if there even is an issue.

So , now it's wait and see. I'll be racing somehow at least, lol.

Am I misunderstanding something here? You can't race a razor-wheeled car in the Open Adult division. That would be an Eliminator (pro div) car.

Yes, I messed up and registered wrong. Attempting to contact them and see if I can fix it (change registration to Pro) somehow.
I think I need to get more sleep /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

When I first seen your setup I thought, Boy! I hope that car doesn't go to the left, it's a short run to the floor. Needless to say, I was sitting on the edge of my seat to see the results. Thanks for the brief moment of excitement. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

I'd hate to tell you how many times I've dropped the car /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif especially after waxing it.

Just a quick update.

Things seem to be moving along better now that I'm getting past the Axel Bending nightmare and the Registering for the wrong Class fiasco (more goofs to come I'm sure)

Special thanks to:

DerbyDad4Hire for fast service on the wheels & axels for Coffin Nail so both cars will be finished.
Greg & Mike over at Mid America for working on getting my status moved over to Pro Class, so both cars can race.
And ALL the gang here on Pinewood Derdy Online for all the tips and encouragement.

Now all I need to do is buff up the new wheels and axels a little, mount everything, get the cars dialed in best I can with what I have and get them shipped out.

More Photos to follow soon as I make progress !

Looking Good Webber! I look forward to see your car there!! You'll end up finding out that Harbor Freight is a great place for tools! And believe me we all started where your at. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

My main issue is I'll never be able to have things like a drill press or band saw. Maybe a sander if I'm lucky.
