I will be racing you guys soon, pumped up on my recent local backwoods domination but know the game changes fast on your level. DD4H is helping me build a car for street stock.

So, I was wondering what kinds of times you hot guns would run on a 35 foot aluminum besttrack. I did a 2.510 best time with my 5 oz car shown in my avitar but averaged around 2.540s.

What would the pros run?

Thanks
Bill

I read on here that a sub 2.5 should be a good time on a 35' track.....assuming you set your hill at 27.1 degrees and your flat is level both ways every time you set up your track. Once you get your car tuned to it's best and send it then you'll have a benchmark for your track.

thanks much.

Oxford, BR is correct. Depending on the class you choose to run I'm seeing 2.48x - 2.42x times. This is what I'm seeing for the BASX to the Unlimited. Not the fastest out there, I'm still missing about .010 in speed, I still haven't figured out that Unlimited yet, or the other classes for that matter.

BTW cool looking car in your Avatar.

Hey Oxford, I tear down my track after testing every time so the speed always changes. I would recommend keeping a car untouched for comparison. I wish I had sent in two my first time.

My kids cars ran 2.48 on a 35' Best track at their pack races. I have no idea about the track angle or set up though.

what kind of mods? i assume lathed wheels and processed axles

I don't feel too bad now about my daughter's 2.50003 on a 35' Best Track at her Powderpuff race this past May.

That was with the Revell Chinese axles, Dynasty Rages, 4 touching and graphite. It kept getting faster, too...one more run and it might have run a 2.49.

Oxford- that is one sweet looking car in your avatar, nice work!!

Times are tough to go by and usually lead to high expectations and disappointment. My last car I built locally ran a 2.895 on the churches 42' Best Track and on my same track at home it ran a 3.005. Massive difference.

Do you mind sharing what kind of finish is used on your car? My painting days are on hold and I'm exploring various alternatives- everything from Kinsers sharpie method to Carolinas Tung oil method.

Oxford, yes, it should be kept in mind that most all tracks will run different times depending on track setup and conditions. I learned that early from the guys on here. I've heard mention that times are generally slower on John's league track than what people are seeing on pack tracks and their test tracks. It seems that people see 2.9XX something on other tracks and then run 3+ in the league sometimes.

Very true. Depending on how the start switch is adjusted, what kind of start switch is used, track setup, and which set of holes is used for the finish line sensors you can see a variety of times.

corvid I wish i could say i made that body but I bought it off another site. hell i don't even have a saw!! for the finish i sanded with 220 then 320 and used Mini Wax Wipe on poly using a sponge brush. i put it in the oven at around 120 degrees for about 10 minutes to speed up drying then sand 600 and put on as many coat as you want. the Wipe On poly gloss is amazing and it bubbles up at first then smooths out to a nice gloss finish.

then i waxed with good old turtle wax.

i kinda like the wood grain so my next will be a nice cherry stain with a satin finish like furniture. and then maybe a floursecent orange one with high gloss.
