Part of the unpredictability of scout racing.
We had one dropped car this year. Fortunately it didn't hit the wheels or effect the alignment because it was a fast car and ended up winning first overall. Our scout track also has some "character " from years of use. The start gate was somehow popping the noses of the cars up off the track when it dropped. It kicked the 15 gram nose of my son's car completely out of the lane on 3 of his 4 races. On the one run that it stayed in the lane, it ran the fastest time of the day.
My boy was broken hearted because he had spent hours and hours building and he knew he had built a fast car. It's the fastest car we have ever run on our track at home and it was .055 second faster than his winning car from last year. For me it was a teachable moment. I used an NHRA drag racing analogy. I explained to him that those racers put a lot of time and effort into building their cars as well and sometimes they blow up. I told him he built a good car but something happened that he couldn't predict and he blew up on the line. And if you're going to push your limits, that will occasionally happen.
Thank goodness it stayed in its lane and put down one good run though. He built a great car and on at least one pass everyone got to see how great it was.
Very proud of my boy.
