Well had my test and tune with Spirit tonight. Even though I only got a couple hours with him, I feel if I spent a day with him building cars I still wouldnt know half of what he's forgotten over the years. I was amazed with his ability and knowledge on how to tune and make a car faster. I'm completely blown away and in debt to him for taking the time to teach a newbie like me. Hopefully someday ill have all your knowledge and be teaching someone else. Thanks again Spirit! Truely a class act.

Be patient ODD it will all come in time. I'm still learning this craft too. The more I spend time reading this forum and talking with other racers the quicker the knowledge comes to you. It is very easy to become overwhelmed with all of this information, we are like a sponge absorbing all that we can. Every once in awhile we need to get wrung out so we can take in new information again as we get rid of the once good information we thought was just that good information until we learn otherwise.

I will say this to all the recent subscribers/members to the NPWDRL, the best thing you can do for yourself is take a bunch of notes when building your cars. Before you send in, jot down all that you know about the car, watch it race and then watch the race again, watch the other cars on the track with you. Now, when your car makes it back to you, make adjustments according to what you seen. Biggest mistake, and we have all fallen victim to this at one time or another, is making too many adjustments at once. As much as we would like to magically tune the car with all the latest tricks, all I can say is it doesn't work like this. One tweak at a time, and if you don't have a track to tune on, this is where you are at, the good ole proven Trial by Fire method. I think you will find that your fastest racers employ similar techniques.

It will come ODD, be patient...

ODD you are fortunate to be learning from one of the best racers in the league and a great teacher. SPIRIT initiated me into league racing last year and graciously taught me how to build fast cars. He continues to guide me even today. He is a great mentor and a wonderful person.

Stay near him and learn you shall, young apprentice! May the force be with both of you.

ODD-

That is cool of you to come on and praise your mentor (s)!!! I know there is a lot of behind the scene teaching that goes untold of how well these guys help. To all the guys who help new racers develop their talents like Spirit a big
clap
clap
to you !!! I do not hang out on other forums to notice if it happens else where but here I can say this is the Right Place to be and the right time to be here.... I can just imagine how much email that DD4H, Kinser, 5K, Spirit, Reso, Opa, QT, JBD, GravityX, just to name a few as there are many on here spend on answering questions helping us new guys trying to learn PWD for Scouts and for those who are trying the League... I had a couple of people ask me and Honestly can say only the things I have been taught can be shared but most times I send them to those who know best because I am learning as well...

One Day ODD you will be that mentor, as your desire to do well and teach others in the League shows here during your learning period....

Great Post ODD !!!!
peace

Thanks. I know things will take time and I'll always have a lot to learn and that's exciting. But I'm just the type of person when I see someone does something better or in our case faster I want to keep trying and changing things until I get there. It's more motivation to be fast b.c I love this hobby rather than trying to fix everything all at once. I am very fortunate to have Spirit as a mentor and I know next time I'm bringing a note book. I learned so much in 1 day and I just want to build all the time trying to find that sweet spot. I'm in no hurry to figure everything out. I'm only 29 and have 2 kids as of now and 1 probably in the future. I'm hooked on PWD so this hobby is here to stay for me. I hope one day I'll be able to pass along the knowledge the pros give me today. I will say this. Spirit has some fast cars so look out for him next Saturday.

+1 Hogan I agree Benji is a class act. From the first race I entered he was the first one that I talked to. He has been there for me giving advice all long. I think if he didn't push me I probably wouldn't be racing now. We talk everyday and he is always giving me advice. So for that thanks Benji

I was lucky to get a call from Benji and he spoke with me for almost an hour.
He saved me countless hours of dead ends with the time he took to speak to me.
Thanks so much Benji!
A class act indeed.
