Hey guys, anyone know of any vids out there demonstrating applying oil? Our churches Awana Grand Prix is here again and the rules do not state dry lube only. :D
I'm getting John's SL Sizzle but just would like to actually see how its done. I can't find much on BoobTube, just cars running that have oil on them already.

Thanks!

The video is on the forum but you need to subscribe to get access to all the videos. There really good videos in this section of new builders.

Thx.
As in the paying prime sub?

I did keep searching and found explanations. But still no vids. I’m just curious to actually SEE it being applied. Either way I’m getting some as our Awana rules are the most lenient ever. Just says “ok to lube the wheels”. Nothing specifying Dey or graphite only. When I realized that I knew I was getting me some oil!

John's video on using the Black Ice prep kit is pretty much 95% of the oil process. The rest is spraying your axles with jig and adding a tiny drop of oil before mounting the axle in the bore.

I’ve never looked at Jig-a-loo or oil for that matter so just not familiar with it. But now that I realize the Awana rules are the most lenient ever I actually can make the switch from graphite. Just never read up on it until now. Just have to now see what Jig’s all about. I see jig alternatives written about a lot. If Jig no longer sold?

Pay the money and subscribe. You will find that video and many, many more that are worth far more than the $50. Besides, it is good to support the guys that make all of this happen. $50 is a bargain...

Jig is not sold in the USA, but many Pinewood Derbians have taken it upon themselves to import it from Canada and will happily sell you a can. Maybe you've gotten some PMs about it already. You can also check Ebay,

An alternative to Jig-A-Loo is Max Pro Heavy Duty Silicone Spray, which you can get at Microcenter, or order online (Wal-Mart used to carry it).

Thx for the tip on that Vit K. I looked up Jig and saw it’s a lubricant. I figure I can just see what it’s intended use was and it’s main ingredients and find a good alternative.
Bought my tabletop belt sander and drill press so other than still looking for a cheap bandsaw I am ready to rock.

Just in case it isn't clear, the main purpose of the jig is to coat the axles in a coating that the oil will slide off of (silicone). To be effective, it has to leave a relatively durable coating, and it needs to have a dry finish.

Another option you might consider would be 3M Dry-Type Silicone Spray, which I believe you can find in auto parts stores.

With the oil process, you use JIG, or a jig competitor to coat the axle, AND an Oil such as SL Sizzle on top of the JIG coated axle (after letting the JIG dry for 15 minutes)

Also you want a plastic-safe synthetic wax or sealant to coat the wheel bore (such as is included with the black ice kit). The idea is to sandwich the oil droplets between two smooth, oil-repellant surfaces to create a fluid bearing effect.

and THAT is what I was looking for! Thx VK. I just needed to fully see how it works and your explanation spelled it out perfectly. Now I get the concept and know what to look for.
Thanks again for the help man. Can't wait to try oil!:Do_O

Just realized tho with John down for the count right now he may not be able to get the oil to me in time. Might have to look for alternative product. Does anyone else sell oil specifically for PWD? I haven’t ordered from John yet and planned on this weekend but then saw his post about his injury. Certainly don’t want to rush or pester him now.

You can buy Krytox GPL 100 from several vendors, but the stuff John sells with the surfactant added is gonna be faster. (Just how fast, I really couldn't tell you.) You might wanna ping John and see if he can tell you how long it'll be until he can get shipping again. I'm sure he appreciates the business. :)

I second the Krytox, which the online scouts tore also sells. However John might still be able to get your stuff out in time, check with him first. How does the new Sizzle oil compare to the older Hater sauce? Does the Sizzle last as long as the Hater sauce once applied? I read some posts here that indicated it didn't work as well with some waxes and slowed down after a day or so. Anybody with experience with both of the oils?
