Mortiser chisel drill bit

I use a 1/4" 4-fluted end mill bit on my drill press to punch adjacent holes and then clean them up moving slowly. Painful needs patience, see 5 kids website that 's where I learned it from. Will have to do until I get a router or an end mill.

I have a mortiser. I don't like it for weight pockets because it doesn't cut a clean, flat bottomed recess. The drill in it goes a bit deeper than the chisel even with the bit pulled up into the chisel as far as it can go. The drill will go through the top of the car body by the time I get the pocket deep enough. I like using an end mill instead also and just square up the corners with a bench chisel.
I use a mini-mill to cut out my weight pockets. I drill out the corners first, mill the parameter and then hog out what remains inside of the parameter.
I use a simple jig that holds the car body tight, then I use a trim router with a top bearing
to "pattern rout" the weight pocket. Very simple, the jig is also very easy to make.
Takes me under 1 minute to cut a flat smooth bottom weight pocket.
If I could show this in pictures it would show how easy it is, but I do not have any.
I may try to post pics sometime, it really does make cutting weight pockets a snap.

No, not even close. Its actually better and easier.
I have a small piece of wood bigger that a car body,
then I trace the outline of a car body on it, and
where the weight pockets would go.
I then cut out where the weight pockets would go into the
wood, this is where the top bearing flush trim bit will ride.
Then I rip some amall 1/4 thick wood to hold the car body and index
it in the proper place.(I just nail or staple this on to the larger piece of wood.
Now all you have to do is clamp the car body in and route.
It so hard to explain in words,
But this really is a super easy and fast way to do it.
Way better than in that video.
