Hi,

I am new to the forum and I have to say that all the cars I have seen here are awesome and I think it is great that you all share info to help each other out. I never knew there was a National League to race pinewood derby cars. My son and I have been racing pinewood derby cars now for three years in our churches Awana Grand Prix and this year my youngest daughter caught the pinewood derby bug too. The best part is that I am able to build my own car and race against them during practice nights. I still have a lot to learn but so far our fastest cars ran between 2.49's and 2.50's. I am not sure if the track was a 32' or 35' though. My son won second place for speed in his group and my daughter won third place for speed in her group this year. We really want to build a car to send in and race but that will be a little while down the road until I can get some money saved up. I am having a hard time getting the picture of the cars to show up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I tried just about everything to get the picture into the post. I will give it a try and thanks again.

Welcome to the forum DEW --->>> Give me a track and nothing to DEW!.HaHa..

Your pic showed up..

I know when you use Photobucket and you click the IMG Code button you will see it say saved.... this automatically copies it for you to paste once you come here...

When you come to the forum and do as 5Kids mentioned click the insert image icon it opens a window where you paste the URL ... you will see just like this in the very front delete the [IMG] to you get to the http:// leave this and at the very end delete [IMG] until you get to jpg...

This should allow it to show ... this is what I do each time I post a picture Thanks to Chief for helping me out with my picture postings....

I was in the same boat you are in. My sons first year in scouts and after building the car with him he now wants a track to build different cars and race them. I'm not able to send a car in to NPWDRL because of work right now but you better believe come May and June you'll see my car there in the amatuer bracket. You'll learn A LOT from these guys. I havent been in here long but have already learned more than I can comprehend. Take notes, there's a lot of knowledge out there. Welcome to the BEST PWD forum out there.

I know what you mean there is a lot of knowledge here that I had no clue even existed because no one in my area will share any. It seemed like what little I know and learned came the hard way through trial and error. When I first joined I took a few minutes everyday reading some of the posts and I was amazed and hooked. My son and I have around 13 cars built but most of them were trying different designs only five of them were ever raced. My wife tells me that I am obsessed with the cars and she would always ask me what I would do when my son could no longer race them in Awana. After finding the NPWDRL I now have an answer for her. I just wish I had a test track. I do have one question, how low should the fenders go down in front of the wheels?

Welcome to the forum! That is an awesome way to introduce yourself. As to your question, I don't think there is a definative answer. Mine are about and inch and a half. Some make them longer some shorter, but I bet they're all close to that range.

Thanks for the tip on the fenders. I am currently working a new car and this is the first time that I will be making them from scratch instead of the plastic ones that you just glue together. I have to say I have seen your cars and they look awesome and I was inspired by them. However I was puzzled by the rear wheels being reversed because I have never seen them that way before. Is it an advantage due to rubbing or appearance? Either way it looks cool and you build a mean looking car!

Welcome, If you see the rear wheels reversed it is because the wheels have been work over, not leaving much structure support, so they are reversed so they can ride on the strongest part of the wheel.

Welcome Dew to the finest pinewood derby forum around. Stay awhile and enjoy the fun and excitement. If you hang around long enough you'll find yourself sending in your cars to proxy race. Enjoy your time here, you'll learn a bunch. HAVE FUN, there is a great group of guys here to help out.

Thanks, that makes sense to me now. I just thought it looked really cool. You don't see reversed wheels in our derby or some of the amazing things I have seen on here

Thanks. Everytime I sign in I learn something new or see amazing stuff to try. I will definitely be proxy racing one day. I just need to learn as much as I can and save some money for parts so I have a prayer of keeping up with all of you. There are a lot of fast cars on here.
