Nickel Plated/Teflon Axles

Has anyone used, tried or tested Winderby's custom Nickel Plated/Teflon axles with their current canted setups and llubes? Are stainless axles faster? Will they work with Jigalloo/krytox?
I tried them out - straight axles no cant and notched front, special nyoil/graphite lube and they are fast, but wondering what the pros have found.

Build some cars and see. I like some of that stuff for Cub racing- but now other places have lower prices so I don't go there much anymore. Are you a relative of Doc J?

No relative ....... Just an avid researcher. The nickel/Teflon axles are new - just wondering if anyone is running them and what they are finding. I ran them this year with excellent results but in a family pack race. Since they are new, it would be interesting to see how they do against ss.

Winderby has had them for over a year, I haven't tried them, but I think they could give the scout racer some speed. I have tried Teflon on Teflon with JigaLoo & Dupont Blue and it is not as fast as the current DD4H oil process. Running Teflon on your axles and on your wheel bore doesn't work very well. I think these axles would be great for a scout racer to use with graphite or a league racer that can make his own bushings. I think they are a little too small to be used with BSA wheels at the league level.

I plan on giving them a try and will report the results. They only come straight but will see if I can have a grooved set made.

What I can tell you is that one of the reasons that my cars are at the rear is because I am somewhat of an entrepreneur/former business owner and as much fun as it is to be the best, I like finding new things that others may not have tried or thought of. In PWD, some things have worked but most have failed but I have a ton of fun in Xperimenting and learning. DD4H has got it pretty much perfected...as sometimes that is Xtremely hard to beat. Good luck and most of all enjoy your hunt for the next biggest and fastest trick.

So we have plenty of manufacturers that can make parts with this process.
I have used all types of electroless nickel plating for over 40 years in the semiconductor industry.
When this came out MANY years ago, I had a few vendors prepare samples for me. I sent silicon slices and different metal plates, AND a few axles.
It is neat- but in my opinion, ( and data from engineers making pinewood cars with them in my DOE classes) it was not better than SS with certain preparations. That is not to say it has no place in racing- just not going to get you to the top of the pros..

Did you see one of my earlier posts on a way to isolate the friction under load of a wheel & axle using bearing wheels and just one test axle and wheel? I respectfully submit it is superior to all other lab set ups to measure wheel and axle friction because the typical lab test does not send the axle through the correct forces like running it on a car. This is a way that even semi-skilled builders can test a new process. I would be happy to test your best shot and compare to SS.

I honestly think the way most of us are now setting our cars up is also the easiest. It works with whatever axle or wheel you use and can easily be applied to any scout race. Graphite only rule is only enforced to try and let Scoutmasters kid win because he doesnt know how to use oil. I will run my setup in any race because it appears dry at racetime and if anyone complains then I will hand them a binky. The info to use the exact method is all FREE right here so there is no excuse. Time to get rid of the graphite mess.

To add some more to my comment.... if I had a graphite scout race where I could buy axles, I wouldn't buy these aftermarket axles because they are too small and I am already waxing my wheel bores with a Teflon product. You are going to get the same Teflon effect by waxing your bores with Legend or Red Rocket and then running good axles. I would be faster with DD4H's 92's and waxed bores than with those axles and waxed or unwaxed bores.

I do have his graphite, and his stuff is what my family all used as scouts we won 1st even at district, I have not used his new things because shipping is expensive. I would like to see how his graphite compares to dd4hire. May I will give him some since I live 45 min from his house or try going to a race. My newest car all his parts with lead com just over 1" nickel axles polished with diamond polish, I had to bend the 2 back axles dont know the degree of the bend and the front has been the death of me but its set like a rear wheel would not work any other way dont know why..and tuned about 3 in over 4 feet...I have his v super light wheels 1.3g runs 3.012-3.10

Next time DON'T bend the rear axles. Drill at 3 degrees and you will pick up speed.
