My 2 sons- (age 10 & 7) pinewood derby was held last saturday 3/16. It was our third derby for my oldest, and first for my youngest (as a scout). In the two previous derbys, we had run fairly good and brought home the best of show trophy both years. Best race finish was second in a den race. My boys always had fun and enjoyed it, even though their cars were never very competitive. This year we decided to focus more on speed than looks. I read through every post on this site multiple times. I purchased a few things from dd4h, and their cars turned out great. They each won their den race and qualified for the overall race. Neither car had lost a race all day. Their cars finally met in the finals of the overall. My oldest's car edged out my youngest's car by 1/2 car length. My youngest was presented his 2nd place trophy, then my oldest got his 1st place trophy. They smiled giggled and patted each other on the back and posed for photos. Wow, what a rush. I just stood there taking it all in. It was like a dream- I don't think I have stopped smiling since. They will remember this for the rest of their lives.
