New Items Performance Tracking Software

Hi Randy,

I thought of one more, and it is a doozy.

Please PM

Best regards,
Joe

Randy, Welcome, great to have you on board!! I think the program you are working on will be a very good tool to use. All the data field you have combined with the ones mentioned will allow for some real good test data and tuning along with basic car configuration.

All the stats anyone tracks that aren't dependent on a sensor could easily be done starting with a list of default categories like you have listed and the ability to create new categories and values. The list of common stats is long as is. After a certain point it would just be faster to pick "create new" then to comb through a huge listing.

Weight placement has already been mentioned. However, weight placement should also include vertical weight placement. E.g., is the advantage of Puma weights inside the wheel cavity occur because the weight is lower (on the car) than it is within the body? Is the vertical placement of weight really an advantage the lower the weight is in relation to the body. E.g., in classes where Wheel Weights can not be used (SP, Elim & Unlm). E.g., in such classes, would putting less weight inside the body, with compensating weight be placed by using thin sheet lead or Tungsten slabs glued on the bottom of the body (i.e. Weight placed under the body would actually be a bit lower than the axle placement).
E.g., many of the top contenders in Elim and Unlm use tungsten slabs glued or taped to the bottom rear of the car's body.

I hope I have worded this in an understandable way.

I did add a Tweaks data field to the test sessions. That way you can document any tweaks that you made when starting a new test session.

This is not something that I have done before, but I will let members of the derby forums get a sneak peak at the software. You can download the software at http://grandprix-software-central.com/downloads/DerbyDataV1_setup.exe. Keep in mind that it still needs some spit and polish and not everything has been tested thoroughly yet. There is no help file yet, but hopefully, I have made things intuitive enough to be self explanatory.

The Demo Mode does have some limitations. You will not be able to import or export data. The timer interface will work, so you can test it with your timer, but you won't be able to save the times. You also will not be able to manually enter run data. Hey, I've got to give people a reason to purchase a license!

Also, don't laugh at my sample data. I just threw data in there so I could see something in the screens.

If you want to provide feedback on it, please do. However, this late in the development process some requests may need to be added to the Version 2 worklist.

I did break out COM into the X, Y and Z axis.

The present data in Randy's program, even posted data on Johns site, can be turned into a cut and past pdf file, and pasted into Excel. All the charts I do are in Excel and anyone who wants a copy can have one. It takes a bit of work, but becomes easy enough to manipulate.

Randy, I get an error message:

"Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index"

when I try to view a graph. I selected an existing session before I clicked on the Graph button. Is there something else I need to do first?

That is the correct sequence.

If you run into a bug, please use the error reporter screen to email me all of the nitty gritty details.

How does the software calculate the Z-axis? I guess a better question would be, how does the average racer measure this value? Given most builders build the Z-axis within the 1/4" plank body without thought. With the advent of inside wheel weights, this has changed the game, with weight residing above the 1/4" body and slightly below.

The software doesn't calculate COM. You just enter a value that you measured for that axis. I guess it all depends on where you consider the zero point to be in reference to the car (or track surface).

Another question. Will this "add-on" be part of the race software package or as separate software by itself? It would be nice if it was part of original software package. I'm considering the purchase in the near future.

This software is standalone. GPRM is already too complex to try to wedge this functionality into it. Anyways, GPRM is really geared to running race events, while this new software is geared to racers trying to improve their car performance.

Ah... Thanks for the reply.

I am unable to reproduce that problem. Can you send me the error report?

Anyone else having trouble viewing the graph?
