Pledge on axles

I have gone through the steps of polishing the axles down to 3000 grit polishing paper and I was planning on using a molly boron to coat the axles. As I understand the rules for the race the only stipulation on, lube is no oil or wet lube. So would pledge be something I could use with that as I assume it would be dry before the race. And the second thought going through my head is can I use something like a thin teflon/plastic cutout to line the body around the edge of the axle to reduce friction or would that have any effect? I appreciate the help

Pledge on the axles is perfectly legal. You're spraying it on wet, but then it dries and you whipe it down like you would a table or any other surface.

+1. We use liquid wax and let it dry and wipe/buff off

I sprayed mine, wiped them off, stuck them upright in styrofoam, came back a couple hours later and installed. I don't think you have to wait to terribly long, if at all.

I let mine dry a little while before whipping them off. Not sure if there's an advantage one way or the other. I had time so I waited.

Okay thanks.

By the way, in the past I would prep the graphite by putting it inside the bore then spin the wheel a few time then continually repeat for about 10 minutes for each wheel. My thought was that I was embedding the graphite inside the bore thus giving me longer graphite life. It seems to work pretty well. I usually take 1st in the parents category. What are your thoughts?

That's called burnishing and it is a good way to work the graphite into the bore rather than do run after run after run with adding graphite inbetween each run. It's a way us cheap dad's burnish since we dont have tracks. I use the smooth side of a drill bit that I polished (thanks 5kidsracing AGAIN!), insert it in the bore with graphite and roll the wheel while applying light pressure on the drill bit.

Interesting as I have been looking for this for JR as well .. and here it is ...
hmmm
idea
Come on Mail show up sooner than later ...LOL...

HI HAVE QUESTION REGARDING PLEDGE IS IT A ONE TIME SPRAY OR DO U NEED TO RESPRAY AGAIN AFTER EACH RACING EVENT AFTER U WIPED GRAPHITE OFF AXLES AND WHEN U BURNISH THE WHEEL BORE DO U HAVE TO REBURNISH AGAIN OR PUFF GRAPHITE IN AND SPIN AND RUN

I used the pledge once and just added more graphite.

I re-pledged, but didn't see any gain or loss. I whipped it down with alcohol, sprayed, let dry and whipped off. I reburnish before next race one b.c I don't know how much of my original burnish has worn off

thanks for the reply obsessedderby dad so when u say reburnish just means add more graphite in and use what u used to burnish the 2 step process in wheels or do u do that over again i know the car is fast now im just looking at it having the fastests times at district on the 3 lanes

I re-pledge and burnish in more graphite before each event. We have a pack race, a city wide race and then a race that took the place of an "official district " race.

what size drill bit are you using?

Anything smaller than the axle bore, a 3/32" bit would do, as it measures in at .09375" You could go smaller if you'd like, but I wouldn't go much larger.

I use the #44 bit you can buy from John or like GX said. As far as reprep goes, I don't reburnish. I burnish once. After that I clean the axles off with alcohol, repledge, and then add some graphite and spin the wheel. Just make sure you retune if you reprep
