This is my daughters building and racing in the Powderpuff Derby in January 2013. They both did well; my youngest daughter won 1st place overall in what would be comparable to a district race (75 car field). As you can see we all had a great time!

Nice work by the girls. Looks like they had fun working with you to build their cars.

That track was a rough one.

Thanks to both of you. The girls did have a lot of fun making and racing their cars. I could have done it all myself but then they have nothing vested in the cars, win or lose. They were really proud of their wins!

The track was really rough. This is the third year we've had a derby. The first year the track was actually worse. The Service Unit borrowed a track that we had to run cars with dowels for axles. It was truly awful. The next year, they build their own track and we've raced on that the last two years. As you can see, it wasn't much better. No timer, and they had teens calling the winners by sight because their were no timers. They got a few close ones wrong or we had to re-run them because they weren't sure of the winner. It was tough.

I just received an email yesterday that they are borrowing an 8 lane aluminum track with timer for this year's race! Needless to say I'm beyond excited. I can't wait to see what times our cars actually run!

Excellent video - looks like the kiddies had a blast. Surprised you can keep them interested for that amount of time. It appears that they put a lot of work in their respective cars.

For the build, they loved using the tools and the airbrush so they were begging to work on their cars all the time. For the race portion, each class would race and the girls would sit by the track for their class, which would only take 15-20 minutes to run. Then the next class would come to the track and their were activities for the girls who weren't racing to do. It worked well and the girls didnt get burned out having to watch a couple hour's worth of races.

Thanks everyone for the nice words. I will be putting together another video of this year's builds and races, which are in Jamuary so stay tuned!
