Proxxon Do you use the X-Y table? Other mods?

I have been using the X-Y table and wondering what others are doing? Also have you made your own base or other mods? Do you still mark the pinewood wood block for axle hole location or have you made a jig?

I have Proxxon, but not the X-Y Table. What is the advantage of using the X-Y table? I mark one rear axle height. Set the adjustable bar to the height of that mark with the angle pin in place and drill both rear axles. I then re-set the adjustable bar using the rear axle hole as a guide with out the angle pin and use shims to base the height of the front axle holes off of the rear hole heights. I do not have to measure the front axle hole heights and can repeat the front hole height from car to car not matter how high I dril the rear. The last car I sent in was not drillled this way, but the two new cars for next month are.

That works too. It is an advantage to me because I do A LOT of custom work. I need the adjust ability.

Cool, not something else I necessarily have to have. I already want the brownells screw head jig and file, the axle bending tool and a mini-lathe.

Sounds like you have one heck of a wish list ...

I use the Proxxon with the X-Y table. I find it is very easy to do the drill repeatedly. In fact, I recently got the Magsquare to use with it. Like John says, it is very repeatable using the X-Y table. I cringed at the price initially until I had it. One word of caution is to square the X-Y table initially. Once I did that, it has never moved. I use the Proxy as my mobile drill press now.

Folks who have seen it, have fallen in love with it. I know for a fact that one wife is getting it for her husband now. The X-Y was the clincher.

I have done the block drilling both ways with the Silver Bullet. The adjustable bar will work, but the Proxy is light years ahead in the drilling department.

I know the XY table was being referenced in the link, but I could not help but see the mill. My guess would be that it would be a little bit of an overkill for this machine to only drill out axle holes. But after seeing it I realized I could possibly save the expense of a router with this MF70 mill.

In my thinking, I would not have to make a jig to cut out weight pockets like I would if I had a router (which currently I don't). The only other additional item I might want would be the vise. I think this mill has great potential for other projects too.

I suppose I could use the Proxxon drill and XY table to cut out pockets, but is it sturdy enough to handle it?

Proxxon Drill + XY table + router + making jig = Mill??? Close to the same amount of money I'm thinking.

Any thoughts?

The proxxon drill press is Not sturdy enough to mill with.. the MF70 and the press is set up way differently. You will burn out the spindle bearing if you try to mill with it.

I have the proxxen drill with the x-y table. I too am considering the mill mf70. I do not use the x-y table for drilling my axle holes. could one of you guys make a video on how you are doing this. I would like to see it.

Thanks for the input, that is was what I was thinking but I just wanted to hear it from somebody that may have had some experience with the Proxxon.

I've priced all this too, and after all that for another $20 I could just get the Mill and have it all. That mill has to drill good holes, and I could cut weight pockets. And later down the road I could add stepper motors to the controls and turn it into a CNC mill and cut a whole car out of wood. But beyond this just for PWD, I could use this for side work of other things and make money with it.

Spend a little more and get a Taig mill. I am hardly impressed with Proxxon.
