Residual polish on wheels...

I'm about to try (re-try) my oil prep process. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

One of the things I noticed in previous attempts was I would end up with residual polish in the recessed area of the inner portion of the hub and in the inner section of the wheel face where the axle head seats. (in the crease).

I'm also going to use the DD4H wheel bore polish to polish these two areas.

After washing in alcohol, I used canned air to blow these off... I don't have a compressor. Obviously, that was not enough to remove the residual.

Anyone have any thoughts of suggestions for removing this. I'm hoping this may have been part of the problem contaminating my previous attempts.

Wheel bore polish #1 doesn't get caught in these areas because you are cleaning it out with alcohol when it is wet. So it sounds like you are talking about wheel bore polish #2.... if you are talking about wheel bore polish #2 and you are cleaning it off with alcohol then that's your problem. Buff out #2 with a pipe cleaner, cotton cloth, etc... no alcohol.

I'm not referring to the inner bore... I'm talking about the recesses on the exterior. That little step on the wheel face and the tiny step on the inner hub.

Yes, I understood what recesses you were talking about... What bore polish is getting caught in there? #1 or #2?

I would agree with your assessment that it's #2. It's buried in the outer crease by the axle head and in that inner hub step.

Do I need to clean my wheel bores before I reprep with Liquid Glass
I ran oil 2 months ago and I could not use the stuff(liquid glass) I found it after the race was over the next day

ok thanks now with the liquid glass done (at 245 am) do i let it dry then blow out and puff with a pipe cleaner then apply the oil when done

Blue
After LG is dried, simply polish out bore with fluffy pipe cleaner. Make sure all polish is cleaned off the outside bore, air blow clean and apply oil.

Well I read this after the fact
let me explain I did the fluffy pipe cleaner but I blow out before I used it and then i oiled later in the day when at work while waiting for the Truck to back up
will do that next time LOL
