Son and I participated in the pinewood derby in the mid nineties. We did our homework and won three years straight on wooden track. Basically, 5 oz, weight in rear of wedge, ran on 3 wheels. ( one of the judges pointed out the “errant” wheel so we could lower it before the race and run much better!) Now a family friend’s Cub Scout has asked for help in his first year racing. So much new online to increase speed! Bent axels, better lubricant than graphite, etc. Any hints on where to start? Thanks!

Don't take this wrong ... Read, read and read!! Start by reading the rules that you have to follow. Then read as much as you can here. There is a ton of good information here!!!! And there is even more bad information out on the web and on you tube. Reading here will help you to sort out the good from the bad.

After you have read you will have a better idea of what questions to ask. Then come back and ask away. Lots of people here willing to help.

Good luck
