Apologies if there is already a thread on this topic, but couldn't find one.

I have a couple of sets of nice wheels and axles that I'd like to recondition/clean to use with oil this year.

What is the best way to clean them to make the switch to oil?

Pros will say no, you can not switch to oil once a wheel has been run with graphite, and for me since I race in a league, I personally would not do it. BUT, if you are racing in a cub scout pack and you are, more or less, a once a year builder, I would do the following:

1. Wash out the graphite with Dawn (soap / Water
2. Lightly polish the bores (LIGHTLY) - do not enlarge the bores
3. Lightly polish the hubs
4. Let it rip with oil

If you get the Black Ice system and follow the instructions, you will see an increase in speed, even with wheels that have previously ran graphite. Just my opinion.
