Rules Help

off topic, how do I wrap quote tags around a text from a post and have it also say who originally posted the text? I know how to copy and paste it then highlight the text and click the quotes but it leaves out the authors name?

it just looks like this.

Did they check for CO2? Your rules as posted actually didn't rule out model rocket engines either. It doesn't say gravity powered only.

Shouldn't they enforce what ever rules they have? I am completely OK with him losing. I just don't like the thought that others could of pushed the rules.

There were a couple that had ghee fenders. I hope no one bent the rules at all. But I just am not sure if they did. The people checking didn't look at those things.

Thank you so much mystery solved!

We followed the rules and will follow them next year also. They would of ruled out CO2.

I just want them to check the cars to make it an even playing field. Maybe it is just me, but I am not positive others didn't only lightly sand the wheels for example.

Yes, they should enforce the rules as written.

Only thing I could suggest would be to volunteer to run the inspection team next year. Good racers make the best inspectors because they know what to look for.

I don't disagree my friend. I wish everyone was honest in this world. Butood people bend the rules all the time. Many times it is not even on purpose. They may not of even read the rules and just built the fastest car they knew how.

Why inspect the cars at all if it is on their honor? They disqualified a few cars because they had canted/toed axles. Why is canting the axles, which is pretty darn easy to do on accident worse than someone using a lathe on wheels.

I would feel terrible telling people they are disqualified and crushing a boys work. There were boys there crying when they lost.

Is there a set of rules that are easily enforceable out there? I get the feeling these rules were written to slow down the scouts who did the most work on their cars.

The MA rules are pretty easy to enforce but I doubt you'd even get them past your commitee.

Some packs write restrictive rules in a misguided attempt to level the playing field but they just make it easier for the people that know what they're doing to win. IMHO, they should just require stock parts be used, inspect to make sure they are, and let the boys race.

I think allowing truing the treads, removing the double step, and prohibit removing any material from inside is enforceable. It would require inspectors to be educated on what lightened wheels look like. Yes there are some sneaky cut wheels but for the most part they are easily identified.

For axles I think opening it up to just nail type axles is best. Unless you're willing to pull a wheel after market axles are very hard to detect. Same goes for allowing grooved axles.

I agree if someone looks closely they could see the wheels were worked on. I know when my boy checked in. They put the checked the car length, width, spacing for wheel base, and weight. They also looked to see if it had all 4 on the floor. They didn't really look at the wheels. Check to see if the axles were magnetic. They also put the cars on their side (basically on two of the wheels) to weight them, which was odd.

What are MA rules? Is there a link to MA rules?

Couldn't they easily say the winners cars will have the wheels pulled and the weight has to be x grams? I personally feel getting the boy to learn about reducing friction is a large part of the process. So we talk about polishing the axles, etc...

But then your still talking about cheating because you noticed what they looked for and what they didn't check. Your best bet is to spend the time between now and your next race to teach and learn how to beat them with you and your sons skill. Like DD4H says. Winners train and losers complain. Time to get to work is what I say.

I am all for training and helping him get better. Honestly it is good to lose sometimes. I know it sounds like I am complaining on here. I told him if he wants to do better next year we can spend more time on the car and continue to learn. I am not saying to cheat. What ever the rules are we have followed and will follow. I just wonder if others followed the rules.

I just want the rules to be the same as the inspection, whatever the rules are.
Have enforceable rules might be a better way of saying it.

A basic example is my sons little league team. His coach was told he had to play all of his players, so he put them all in the field. So he had 10-12 boys in the field. The first game the umpire allowed this to happen. The second game they did not. This rule is easily enforceable, but wasn't fair to the first team because they had 9 in the field.

Thanks VitaminK - I will look at those rules.

What I'm saying is read every post on this board and follow the rules and it will be the other dads coming to us for help to catch you guys next year. It's been proven year after year. You can do it, if you set your mind to it. My boys lost first place at districts due to some dishonesty, and they barely beat us. We didn't complain were just going to work harder and overcome them fair and square. My trophy will be to watch the fathers reaction knowing that even when he cheats he still can't beat us. And yes my boy does his own wheels and axles all himself.

So does mine and all the cubs who I have helped and enjoy racing. I also have a cub who wants to league race (not my son, unfortunately). He's already got the parts list and will be placing an order with DD4H, if he has not done so already. And HE wants to compete, not me doing it for him...

There always is some Dad's cars at every race, nothing you can do about them only yourself and your boy.

Ed, that's awesome, I'm sure with your guidance he will do well.
