I need to build a car for a wood track 20' long no center rail to ride and very little slope . I need to get the car rolling quick I was think long wheel base, three wheels touching, try to tune for straight run. I would like your guys opinion on the build and ideas on setting the com. Thanks Craig

Is this a plastic track ? Normally with no center guide people either go straight or ride the outside rail (opposite of what we normally do). With such a short distance I would be tempted to tune for straight, but I have never tried that setup. Hopefully someone else has. Seems like that setup would be fairly easy to mockup and test.

I HATE these types of tracks!!!! If there is not much of a transition I would go pretty straight. Like .5-1 inch over 4 feet. The setup is quite different on these cars. I would narrow the rear of the car to make sure you don't drag the rear wheel, and instead of a positive cant on the FDW use a neg cant. You would still steer towards the dominate side. Hope this helps.

Oh yea one more thing, usually the stop section on this type of track is terrible. Most likely a crash box. Make sure your frt wheels are further back in the body. If you have to use the slot location just make sure the longer part is the frt of the car.

Great stuff QT! Especially that part about that narrowing of the rear, I totally forgot about that. The other thing I can think of adding is to polish/lube the outside of the front wheels. As far as COM goes, I don't see any reason to do much different from normal. You won't have a big transition to contend with, so there is less risk of going unstable. I would think that an extended WB with a fairly aggressive COM might be the way to.

I have never had to run without a center rail, but wouldn't it work well if you turned all the wheels around, then polished the outside surface edges? Since you probably would not be able to use washers to make up the distance from the body to the inside hub, you would have to do a bit of shaping of the body to bring the axle spots go a semi point. It might work?????
