Show Off Your Street Rods!

It's dupli-color. I like their paint a lot, drys fast! If you don't do it right the paint will craze like crazy.the first body I painted went into the garbage.
Here's how I did this car.
Prime the car let it set 30 min or so
I sprayed the base color light coverage, then let dry for 10min. 2nd coat base color better coverage coat, let dry for 10 min. 1st coat of top color light coat, let dry foe 10 min. 2nd coat of top color fairly heavy good coverage, let dry for 10min. 3rd, clear coat I use dupli-color clear enamel, 1st coat medium coverage, let dry 10 min, 2nd clear heavy coat I want it to look like a finished clean clear coverage, very little orange peel. Now the hard part let sit for a week or more to fully cure. That's the hardest part.

Very very nice. What paint is that? It came out beautiful.

Less talk, more pics! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif (See Post #1)

GX: It's an Audi R8.

And it *is* a beautiful paint job there, Joel! Of course, your pics have generated so many questions for me... Which I'll address in PMs (or a standalone post should you make one). /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

Here is a Daytona Dodge (that can't get out of it's own way), and a Pontiac Grand Prix, that has done well in races.

Ol' Blue: You have a '57 Chevy SR? Awesome! Yes! Post a pic!

Opa: Personally, I am very glad that we moved away from the Lexan bodies. Sure, they're easier to work with and faster, but the model kits are so much better to look at! I like your "White Death" and "Yellow Death" Pontiacs. I hope to build a version of the Smokey and the Bandit '78 Screaming Chicken some day.

Thanks to a new chassis and drill job and to the NPWDRL gate change, this car beat its "2.99" dial-in time. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

Do you consider the 1957 Black widow a street rod for this division

Just make sure it meets the rules for size? A '57 Chevy sedan was about 200" long in real life, a 1/25 scale model would be 8", a 1/24 scale model would be 8.33", too big with the class limit of 8.25".

Now a question for you guys. If I picked a car body that was very pointy on the nose, is it acceptable to put a 1/2" wide strip of 1/64" plywood under the nose (that does not extend the length of the body) to assist in staging? I noticed that some cars, say the '70's Vettes or something similar, won't sit on the pin when staged and it puts the DFW hard into the rail. My Mustang does ok but I have another body in front of me and it looks like it's going to be a problem.

EDIT: Forgot to pay Crash's photo tax:
It's a little dusty so I can call it a "barn find" '57 Thunderbird.

Maybe you can slightly round or flatten the point and give it a not so smooth contact area so it won't slip off the pin. Then set your front track width to center the nose on the pin.

Well, there's not already a licence tag holder on this car...........

I should probably send a message to the ruling body just to be safe.

Looks like that guy could make a NPWDRL plate for it. How could John say no to that! Lol

I just opened the 57 Black widow kit and it does fit the rules 8 1/8 and it is 1/25 scale I promise to post a pic after I get it started

Introducing "Fast Forward". First race will be today. I owe a lot of people thanks for this one. First, Kinser for inspiring me on a good model to build. I've heard him say imitation is the highest form of flattery. I have always enjoyed watching his GT40. Jason and Frank for helping me with the paint, and Down4Derby for helping me out with the chassis.

The picture does not do this car justice. The absolute coolest, fastest street rod I've ever seen. We were drooling over it! /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif
