I haven't had a lot of time to work on my cars lately, but when your dad asks for your help in his outlaw race there is no turning him down. My dad served in the US Navy, so I thought it would be a nice tribute to make it Navy themed.
The car design was inspired by Goatboy's laser bodies (but a fat version since I wanted to experiment with the 10 ounce and 8 inch rule limit). Thanks to Goatboy and DerbyDad4hire for the awesome products. My dad had a great time. It was awesome watching him walk around holding his car showing it off to his friends. He was very proud of it.
On a side note, I kept adding weight up to the 10 oz which made the car faster but not much faster than my 5 ounce bearing cars. I put a bunch of double sided scotch tape on the bottom to help at the stop section on my track and that worked well. At the race the stop section was not the nicest and it was painful to observe the car smack into the end. For anyone making this type of car I would follow Opa's advise and not go much heavier than 6 to 6.5 oz.
