STAGING instruction for each individual lane..

OK... I have a question.. I know personally that live racers stage there cars different in each of the 4 lanes. My QUESTION is if we was to send a STAGING INFO SHEET.. For each car to be staged a certain way in each lane would that be possible?? I personally know there's a lot of speed left on the table for me as a racer proxy racing. I usually set my cars up neutral.. And hope for the best... So with this being said would the STAGING INFO SHEET .. Be put on the wall and cars staged accordingly to instructions and lanes..

Sounds like an excellent idea. Being live does give a slight advantage. Having a staging sheet for the center lanes and the Red and Blue lanes could be an equalizer. Just saying.

My point here is this... I know my SS , SP, and BASX is faster than they are running.. Why do u think everyone is slow in the middle lanes!! My cars are all marked... How to be staged .. Whether its 10 sheets or 100 sheet you have to make it fair to a proxy racer. Ask Kinser about his sheet he has far as staging his cars from prelims to finals.. He also looks ar the car beside him to dee how its staged heres everyone a scenario( Im in the Red lane, Kinsers in the white lane, he stages his cR tight on the rail. Im gonna star mine off the rail to roll out further on the hill so i can get out and be pushed.. his car being against the rail will shove mine to the rail.. being a way faster time 6-8 thousands..)same thing in Blue lane with daylight. Far as staging day / rail and center the rears. My cars would slow down 4-6 thousands. How's that fair.. I'm not complaining one bit about staging at. NPWDRL ..this is just a discussion and opinions. When I was LIVE at Johns for Nationals .. My cars staged different in every lane to get the max speed and get off the hill..when you proxy you can't do that.. What the point of having a FAST pass in RED & BLUE , and being 6/8 thousand slower in the BLACK & WHITE. Neutral cars will be slow in the middle lanes.

The proxy racers could mark their cars with colors for each lane and we can use that to stage them how you want every time.

Perfect idea.. I will get some stickers for my cars and mark the front with the color of the lanes... The rears of the car will stay the same. That never crossed my mine but that will work perfect... I will cut little strips of the lane in color reference and mark how to stage..

Could make color coded staging letters and/or lane markers on the car. Print out letters on label sheets with the lane colored backgrounds and attach them to the car. Same with making rear markers, just cut out strips to mark the position. How many different positions do you race with? Just two? One for the inside and one for the outside? One for the DFW side two most lanes and another for the NDFW most lanes? Four different positions for all four lanes?

Great solution! You just don't ever know until you ask. Colored markers or color coordinated stickers.

And to think I was extremely discouraged and feeling hopeless about improving before reading this-

not to sound negative but what's the point in me trying to improve my build process when I would never know if it was helping?

I don't know if my prep is sufficient, if my polishing is working, if my fenders are shaped right, if my drill job is good, weight placement etc.. It would be insanity to go start a new build or to keep doing what I'm doing to these cars.

I just don't have what it takes to run with you guys- good luck everyone.

I think the different color stickers for staging the cars is a great idea. For me though I would probably just keep with a standard stage setup for each lane until I learn more about how the cars in the other lanes affect my cars going down the track or how staging affects the speed of cars.

I stage mine the same in every lane. The 2 months I messed with trying different staging cost me the SS Title. All my cars stage the same, I set them up that way on purpose so I don't have to have a sheet. The speed is in the set up, making sure your cars are repeatable, where if your car does have a wiggle because of traffic or or being to loose when it does move around the speed isn't effected much. IT'S IN THE SET UP OF EACH OF OUR CARS!!

So you decide which staging setup to use for each car based on track testing?

All cars and builders are different ... We all weight different , different steer, Etc.. Believe it or not I re weighted a car this month and only ran 1in. Steer and it was fast.. Every car vary and builders build different. I know at Nationals guys was running a lot more steer than I normally do(JOEL) Joel I know mine and your cars are day light and dark on setup etc... I just know I watch and learned so much at Nationals being live.. What to do in each lane. But that's just me.

So I'm trying to understand a 6-8 thou difference from a geometry point of view. If your steer is set at say 4" per 4 ft, even if your DFW is set 1/4" off the rail, it would be back to where it wants to run within 1-2 ft of travel I would guess, unless it's skidding down the hill most of the way without steering, or the back is cocked the other way. This may be enough to make a difference maybe? Not saying I don't believe, just trying to grasp it. Given, I haven't had a chance yet to play with the track or staging or attend a live race. For me at this point, I would be hesitant to mess a bunch with the staging until I had a chance to test lanes on johns actual track IMHO...

I imagine what most folks are thinking, "I may be missing 5 thou also then....hmmm." Some will gain and some will lose trying it I would think.

I'm gonna go live for the MOTM FINALS.. Watch my times .. And averages ... Bought a new suitcase to pack my cars in for the trip today. Joel stages the cars perfect... I promise you guys however they are marked that's how the get staged to perfection..I've seen him stage in person and he's awesome.. All I'm saying is every racer knows his car.. Know how to edge every bit of speed out of it..ASK KINSER.. Lol. You see how your car act in certain lanes against certain cars.. Next time you can stage different. Far as roll out on start... Bullet. If you stages next to me and your on the rail and I'm Triple daylight off the rail .. Which car do you thinks gonna drop the fastest and get out..MINE.. Then Your gonna push me to the rail and mke me that much faster. Because you are pushing me now.. It's good for a least 4-5 thousand for sure.. There's advntages with everything you do, owning our own track , cutting wheels , etc.. I'm just wanting to stage my car different .. That's all and John made a simple solution .. thanks

Hey JBD, thanks for the explanation on this, and posting this on here for the rest of us to see. I havent gotten into the details of the staging much yet, but this thread and the thought processes described has already helped me understand it much better. I knew the benefit of being out front, but just never gave much thought to how to get there faster. lol I just got my track up and running so maybe I cant test some things when my cars get back. I need to watch more closely during the October races. Folks should take this as something more to study and a great tip!

That's why we do this.. To learn and get faster every month.. No problem.. I always help people that wanna help there self..and learn detail.. And tip and take the help and you it and learn from t. Others just want you to tell them up front how to get fast and it don't work like that...LOL!! . Feel free to PM anytime. BULLET. I put at least 20 hrs a week in this hobby sometimes more .. And I'm still learning every month.. May this year was 1 year racing.. So I'm 16 months in..
