Teflon washers

Ok guys, I started buy loading up on supplies last year then life got in the way . I'm currently working on some SS body's for my first attempt to run with the Big Dogs . My question is, is it necessary to run the Teflon washer's on the rear of the car since the wheels are riding out on the axle head and away from the body . Secondly, is it best to recess them into the body and glue or can they be pushed onto the axle and adjusted when setting wheel gap .

I don't think you have to run them on the rears, but I am guessing most guys do just because you can, why not & can't hurt mentality.... I run them on the rears....

It is easier to run them on the axle, I only run them glued to the body when rules don't allow spacers. Recessing them into the body or changing the width of your car can change the tuning of your car for the good or bad....

OK Thanks , I would assume the one for the DFW should be attached to the body to prevent any chance that it could rotate with the wheel ?

For scout racing. Since washers are not allowed, on the internet (or elsewhere) go buy:

SALLY HANSEN TEFLON TUFF clear nail polish

When you Google, be sure to include the word TEFLON or TEFLON TUFF
There are a dozen places.

I tried it on a ELIMINATOR, first with teflon washers on all three wheels, then removed the washers, painted on the TUFF stuff and got identical times using the same wheels, nails and steer.

+1 on the Teflon nail polish. I just used this stuff at my workshop on a few scout cars, works well, take awhile to dry thou.

How much of a gain with washers or nail polish vs none

Unfortunately, I didn't document after I finished, because I have always used the washers b4.
I am guessing about 1/100 on my 40 foot test track.

Incidentally, on my grandson's BSA cars, where washers are not allowed, I always used Monokote on the bottom, wrapping it up over the sides. Same effect as washers in my tests.

For one of our scout races, we can't use washers. Do you think the Teflon Tuff polish is faster than a 2-part clear coat buffed out, with Red Rocket over it and graphite burnished in the body (where the inner hub will rub)?

In BSA races, probably not enough to count.
In league races, Teflon would be 1000ths faster, assuming all else is equal.
