To the members on the board,

Thank you for sharing all your advice and welcoming me to the board. It is fantastic that everyone shares information and ginuinely tires to help one another. I have learned a lot from many of you and look forward to learning more from the veterans on the board and possibly sharing some findings as a continue working on my car building skills.

I wanted to share with you guys pics of my sons car last year. We never built a car before so we did some research online and built the car below. Obviously, I didn't know about this forum last year.

The car came in first place. And needless to say, I got the Pinewood Derby bug and wanted to learn how to build a faster car.

Below is a pic of my sons car that we built for this year for his scout race. We used the parts in the Scout Box to build the car. And added everything we learned from the forum into the car. The car is running graphite. This car is faster than last years car.

We race tomorrow evening. I will share the results with you guys tomorrow after the race. Once again, thank you for the help.

And I do plan on jumping in and racing with you guys soon. I just need a little more time to work on my car prep skills.

Regards,

Joe

Car looks fast - even see some wind jammers on the rear wheels. I am with the others -- you need to send it in to NPWDRL.

Good luck!

Very nice, looks like you've learned your lessons well. Good luck at the race and hope to see you at one or more of our races in the future.

Isn't that car illegal (fenders) for box stock?

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I just assumed the rules were more restrictive as you went up and since they aren't allowed in BASX they wouldn't be allowed in Box Stock. Good to know!

Great looking car but, are the front fenders installed upside down on both front & rear wheels?
Or is the car upside down? Something doesn't look right.

Fenders won't do you any good if according to the Box Stock rules "Total Car BODY Width : Not to exceed 1-3/4″ inches…" Adding fenders to 1-3/4" body will violate the total body width rule.

Be ready to run your car upside down if you have those fenders on wrong- If you drilled all axles with no cant- not much change in speed.

I just love how everyone participates. I am not sure if this car is legal for box stock. I thought we could not have aero weights . I will take a look at Bull Dogs video to see how he describes the box stock car. I will definitely enter the league at the box stock level first. Can we use oil in the Box Stock races? I have zero experience with oil so I need to work on the oil process.

I will take a look at how I installed the fenders to make sure I did it correctly. It appeared that the New Diamond Gee Fenders do not have the same installation orientation requirement as the old Gee fenders because the new Gee Fenders are symmetrical.

This car is fast for the my sons Seattle scout race but it is not up to par with the NPWDRL level. I will build another car to the latest Box Stock rules and send it in.

Stay tuned for the race results.

Fenders are Legal! I made a adjustment to the rules, thanks for pointing that out. The class is geared towards the Scout Racer that is looking to race more. A lot of Scout cars have fenders. I don't want then to have to tear them apart to race. Everyone is encouraged to race the class if they desire. Being a new class there are going to be some hiccup in the rules, please if you have a question just ask.

The car ran fast and took first place. One run was 2.99 and another run was a lot faster but i don't remember the exact time. I can't remember the exact time because I was busy helping manage the event.

One thing I noticed was the car ran really fast in the begging but slowed a lot near the last runs. I need to improve my wheel and axle prep.

Once again thank you all for the advice. I look forward to improving my build skills and racing in the league.

And I did install the fenders upside down and raced it any way. What a rookie mistake!!!!

Congrats! Glad you ran OK. Did your son have a blast?
Were you running graphite over Red Rocket?

Don't feel bad. I built an electric Outlaw car that we ran a couple days ago. The pin dropped and it slid down the incline then started to go back up again. Wired the motor backwards and didn't even notice or check. Ran it in reverse and it nearly curled up the track on it's way down. That's why I'm not an electrician. Good thing it's my son's last year. I'd hear about it next year I'm sure.
