This hobby is mocking me ...

So I spent hours and hours on my SS car. Prepped, tested, adjusted, tested, prepped, tested, adjusted, tested ... etc. etc. See the "I'm in reprep hell ... " thread for more. I was sure I found at least .01 seconds. Took it to the local league this weekend to run it. NOPE!! Exactly the same.

Meanwhile, I slapped a new DFW on one of our scout cars and tuned it for a maybe a minute. And it picked up almost .02 at the league.

There really needs to be a gun to the head emoticon for weekends like this.

Lightnin,
I hear you. I had my @ss handed to me in the novice race. I was hoping to go sub 3 as I have helped with 5 sub 3 scout cars-I am feeling the pain of knowing that not all 42 ft Best tracks are the same. My brain understands this but the rest of me does not.

I'm in the same boat lightning. Retuned both cars and found 0.01 and 0.02 on the test track compared to their test runs after coming back from the March race. So I thought hey I found some speed. Well April raced proved me wrong as I got slower. Not sure what went wrong.

Not sure what this is, but my browser doesn't display anything here other than a picture icon for a picture. (If that makes any sense, LOL)

This hobby can be maddening! Every time you think your gaining ground, the bar gets raised.
In March there were 7 sub 3 cars in Novice. In April that number is up to 12! (Speed Bump is only a half revolution away and ICE was sub 3 in March). We would easily have 15+ cars that are sub 3.0 in May. People are getting faster.in our class.

ODD - you were actually faster in April. I think May will be a great race!

Thanks guys. Good to know I'm not the only one who has weekends like this.

I've decided to pull back and simplify. Clearly, I still need to learn a few things about prep and about my testing procedures and how they are all translating to the track. So I think I'm going to shelve the crazy fender car pictured in my "Latest SS build" thread and just build a straightforward car and really focus on my drilling and prep.

I kinda like the crazy fender car. I think you should stick with it... /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

Yes, I too saw that the number of cars running sub 3 seconds has gone up. Also noticed in the Novice finals that my Nevets car was the only car that was not running in the 2.98xx range

I am thinking that to make the May Novice finals cars are going to have to run in that 2.98xx range.

Time to dust off the DD4H DVD and fine tune my car prep!

I would be curious if you could remove the middle/rear fender and swap in a conventional rear fender to test both versions to eliminate most other variables. From what I've read about aerodynamics you may not get much benefit from the taper on the back side of the front wheels. I do like the way they look though and you did a great job sculpting them.

LOL - thanks! Well, I'm not throwing it away or anything - just shelving it for a bit till I work out some stuff.

Thanks IC. My black car was slower but I did gain some speed on the bare one. Still nothing compared to what testing showed. Basically my prep sucks so back to the drawing board
