Here is my rig for drilling axle holes:

Proxxen drill with x-y table, The Block and short drill bit:

This car body was made with a bandsaw to cut it thin. A hand drill to place the tungsten round and the rig above:

Axle prep in a variable speed dremel with stand and bore prep with a qtip and hand drill....

Spend the money/effort to get the holes straight. This is what makes the car fast. Other things done however possible as they are much less critical...

Rear axles straight with holes drilled canted 3 degrees

Front left drilled straight and raised

Front right drilled straight with axle bent

Axle bent with file while axle chucked in dremmel tool and then bent while in dremmel...
 
I have not seen it. I bet it is very close that block with some minor mods to make it a little more user friendly. John doesn't sell crap, so I would have to imagine its awesome.

YOu must be reading my mind; I was about to post a new topic on what are the best tools for building; I was also thinking about a scroll saw or at least a scroll blade on a band saw and a belt sander as well.

I am very thankful to have found this site as another newbie looking for a much bigger trophy for my little buddy next year. I told my wife last night that this was becoming an obsession and since she knows how I can get she said I'll see you in a couple of months when you come up for air./images/boards/smilies/smile.gif I'm looking forward to learning all I can from you guys. For getting started I am getting predrilled blocks from DD but the rest (except for axle bending) I feel comfortable giving my best shot.

it is used to drill holes in a block of wood in order to achive the correct angle of cant to make a very fast car. It removes the practice of spending an eternity try to bend axles to get the same results.

Thanks Brian, we have a metal tool that you place the axle in and it bends it for you. Being a beginner, would you recommend that we use this. Seeing as i don't even know the terms let alone what to do, would this be the safest route to go?
 
Whatever you do, do not bend your rear axles! They need to drilled on a cant(angle). You are going to be pulling all your hair out trying to tune a bent axle car, only to have it beat by a correctly drilled car. Invest in the Silver Bullet.

To accurately bend an axle for alignment or for a raised wheel, use the Pro-Rail Rider Tool with the Pro-Axle Press. The Pro-Rail Rider Tool accurately places a 1.5 or 2.5 degree bend in an axle.
 
That sounds like a good sales pitch! Most all of us fell for it too, now the tool sits and collects dust or thrown in the trash.

ya, i fell for it too, i bought the whole line up of those tools. and its funny that this topic has come up, as i just threw them all away yesterday. most were used one time. they are frustrating enough to make most new guys quit racing. a total waste of time and money. i will say this though, they have a fantastic advertising department.

the silver bullet is the best way to get the job done. you will spend hours upon hours with bent axles, and thats for every car and you wont know if your getting the full potential of the car. with the silver bullet and 5 minutes you will get the best results every time.
