We are seeing posts that start to touch on rating a racer not just on winning but what they taught, shared and did for the sport. If what they shared and did for the sport is going to be part of the rating, I would move 5Kids up the ladder. How many workshops, how many hours with scouts? How many hours promoting and putting on races? How many posts with answers to questions? How many posts with "how to"? How many e-mails to guys like us offering help? How many of us have benefited from having 5Kids around? Scott is not only a class act, he is always fast!
You have to look at the top level races that drew the best of the racers and welcomed all racers. Racking up wins at WIPR would not be what this is about. Who performed at the big live races? Who performed in the top league races? Who won league championships? That is also a good tell but it also can blur because once again having multiple leagues skewed the success of some racers.
Since 5 Kids is a main subject here I think there is no doubt he has made a crater sized mark on pinewood derby in general and he has proven to be incredibly fast. I think he might agree to some extent that his glory days came at the PWDR and there might still be a little left to question as to how he would have finished at the NPWDRL. Like it or not, there is a difference and there always was a difference. When talking all out skill and speed I personally do rank 5K anywhere in the top 10 for sure.
As far as Jewkes goes, yes he did innovate. But he has not won a race in a long time and he has all the tools and knowledge everyone else has. I guess he got too worn out carrying me or maybe he got too tired from flapping his lips.
It would be nice to go back and see all the results of old races. Too bad a lot of the history has been removed and fools refuse to share it.
