Track storage

Guys,

I know that most of you that have tracks can't leave them set up all the time, so ......

I am wondering if there are any of you that are willing to share (pictures would be GREAT). How do you store your track, timers, and related stuff?

I figure that there is no need to re-invent the wheel (storage box) so I thought I would see if I can learn from what works for you. So if you were building a storage box today, what would you do again, or maybe more importantly, what would you AVOID based on what you have learned?

Thinking bout Racin, May I say first your presence on this site is awsome! You have such a way with words, builders answere some questions that may sound foreign but you sum up very clearly.
In response to your storage container, could you include a little more info about the track you will be storing? The type of track, Length or # of sections, leveling kit or not, as I feel this will help others to further help your the cause. I recently built a crate for our packs 42’ best track based on best tracks print which is available on their site. Although it works it could be better. One thing I added which worked out well was 4 eyelets fastened to the floor, 2 on the back and 2 upfront. You can hook the draw type( not ratcheting) staps to these to hold everything securely during transport. Good luck, hope to here more from others...

Thanks for the response. I purposely left the type and size of track open as I wanted to generate as many possible solutions as I could. I figured if I stated it was for a 42' 2-lane Best Track with two stop sections, that only a few might reply?

I just figured that if I got some ideas and pictures, that I could extrapolate what and how those ideas could be incorporated into my storage box. Your idea of hold-downs is a really good one if the track is going to be transported a lot.

And ...thank you for your kind words. Everyone here seems to generally share information/ideas freely! I do have to admit, I don't think I have ever been told that I "have such a way with words". It did make me smile thou! Thanks!

Okay... My personal track stays up all year long.

But... The track one of the cub packs that I work with is a 42' Best Track, and it is stored in two boxes made from plywood. The timer is stored in a separate carrying case that is has padded foam to keep it from getting bumped and damaged. The timer is kept at a scout leaders house.

It is stored in a building with cub scout stuff all around it, and for the last three years, we used this track for races. It is always in great shape.

Lucky you ...I am not sure if I am envious or jealous? Probably a bit of both.

Thanks for the idea of foam padding. I was contemplating heavy duty cardboard. I have some saved from several appliances and some heavy duty shelving. It is a double layered cardboard. Maybe a combination of both?

Harbor Freight has camera cases that will be large enough to hold the timer, and they aren't that expensive. You can cut the foam in there to fit.
