I have been on Spring Break vacation with my kids for the last few days and I am just catching upJ
My opinion is that the SS class should not be separated at all…. I think that it adds a skill level for the top builders to race side by side will new guys with the wiggles, air flow problems and all. I am not in favor of having the top guys only racing in cleaner air and laying down better times. I basically think it is unfair to the amateurs to have the top guys race by themselves. I think this only further separates the top from the bottom (which is very little these days). I say if you are really that good than you can race with anybody, anytime on any track. To be honest when I started I really got a kick out of seeing my car staged up there with White Mountain, JB07, DD4H, etc… Yes I lost, but I was racing head to head with the big guys and it was exciting. The finals format at the NPWDRL is second to none and the top guys can lay down their top times there……. That is if they make it into the finals.
Regarding getting people to race…. I have been around awhile and the guys that have the drive and passion to race will race, the other guys want instant success and aren’t willing to devote the time…. or like John said there are others that want to maintain some legend status by not competing which would show their true skills. You just need to maintain a forum that allows these passionate few to thrive. Winning a scout race is easy, winning a NPWDRL race isn’t, but they are the same race just better competition. The guys that really want to race will find the NPWDRL.
