Very old wheels and axles will they work?

I have my old original cars, two cars are mine and then I have two cars that were my parents, I was a cub scout from 78-81. I was looking at the axles no stamp marks at all and they measure .092-.093 and are very straight. I was thinking of Polishing up these using the current polish products and then fixing up a set of modern wheel and putting it all back on my old derby car. I was also wondering about using our modern polishing products on the old original wheels. I have some extras and was wondering if ti would work.

If the axles are straight and round, well...metal's metal, right?

Presuming that the old wheels are made of a similar plastic, I don't see why you couldn't use modern bore prep on them. They're probably a lot heavier than current wheels, though.

I would have to say no. Taking the same techniques used on a stainless steel (SS) axle on a softer axle will destroy them, if you are not paying attention. You really need to be mindful while sanding the axles, the coarser sandpapers will eat a soft axle real fast, where it barely touches the SS axle. A softer axle material requires less time with the sandpaper. I doubt the axles you are referring to are SS.

I know the wheel will be heavy, I will just pay close attention to the polishing on the axles and just make sure to not sit on them long with the sand paper. i want to refurb my old cars and run them again.
