OCD... you are right, .101 is too big, I have bought a ton of these and I have not experienced a whole package that are that big... a few yes, but not all.

I measured about 50 and the smallest I found were 0.098". I found five of them, so I guess that’s what I'm going with. The mode of the 50 I measured was 0.100".

If I had a wheel bore that was .098, then I would look for a q-tip that was about .099.... I would measure the center and ends of a stem and if i got something like .098, .100, .099 I would use that one... I probably wouldn't use one with a .101 measurement unless the other two were .099 like .099, .099, .101....

Like I said earlier in this thread, measuring a paper Q-tip stem takes a little practice/skill....

I measure in three places also. If it's good except for one end, then that's the side I stick in the drill.

I think we all end up with LOTS and LOTS of q-tips for the rest of the family to use

I didn't measure targets brand of swabs but they seemed to fit well in the bores
