Walgreens Q-tips

Nope, I'm using BSA wheels. The Walgreen's Q's are too big. They wreck the bores if you force them in. I even tried sanding them down some. Maybe they have different suppliers for different regions?

Don't know, but the Dollar Tree's Q's were perfect.

I have had the same problem with the walgreen's q-tips. I have to messure 100 to get 10 that will work. Nice find on the dollar tree. I will have to give them a try. Are they their own brand?

What diameter is ideal?

The smallest I have found so far, including the ones that come in the DD4H polishishig kit, are between .097 to .100". They are a real tight fit but they seamed to do a nice job on the wheel bores.

QC -- In some countries.......

QC might mean Quick Cigarette or Quit Concentrating... No more Quality Control...

Only thing they say besides "cotton swabs" is "Assured". Don't know if that's a no-name brand, or Dollar Tree's "house" brand. They work, though. The one's I've tried so far actually go into the bore pretty easily, maybe even a bit of clearance. Haven't tried doing any plastic polish with one, but they burnish graphite very well.

[tr][td]Regarding the Walgreen's Q tips: I bought some of the recommended type from the local Walgreen's here in Wake Forest, and they won't even begin to fit through a hub.

Found some at the Dollar store that work great, though.

pacfanweb ... Are you cutting the tips on an angle? I have tried without angle cutting and they do not go in easy... Just a thought.. After cutting them like this they go right in...

Does it make a difference between using the walgreen swabs with plastic shafts or the ones with the paper shafts? Or, do both work equally well?

The Walgreens work great for me. No bigger than .1, no smaller than .097.

Thanks John for answering the question.

I recently used the ones that came in your polishing kit. The inside of the wheel bores looked like glass when I finished with the 2nd polish. Can't wait to see the reduction of time on the clock.

Yep, cut 'em just like that. I went through my Walgreens box of Q's again and did find a few that would barely get in there without boring the hub out.
I was experimenting today to find a process my daughter could easily do for her Powder Puff Derby wheels, and ended up using the Dollar Tree swabs for the plastic polish, then the few Walgreen's swabs that were small enough for burnishing the graphite in....they worked great for that, but if I didn't have them impregnated with graphite, I don't think they'd have gone in the bore without damaging it. As it was, they squeaked like crazy, but I got a great result.

Going to have her do her race wheels this way. We'll see how it goes. Ordered a Plug and Play block from DD today, can't wait to see how fast it'll be with our running gear on it.

+1 on cygnus
I also only use one per wheel, I start by measuring 97 or 98 seams to be the best for me 100 seams to be very tight and if not careful can do some damage. plus after one wheel the Q-tip seams to be getting distorted and your timing would have to change on each wheel because of the pressure difference by reusing the same one. if you carefully inspect the paper shaft after one wheel it doesn't look the same as when you started the process
