So we did it! Thanks to everyones help on the forum. My oldest placed 1st in his Den and 2nd overall. He was so happy. He wouldn't sit down the entire race. He would just stand next to the starting gate and watch confidently. And in the finals the other Web 1s were chanting his name before the start of each race. He was very proud. It made for some awesome father son moments. In the finals he had three 2nd place finished and one 1st place finish. We only lost by .02 seconds to the leader. We'll take the trophy next year. I'm pretty confident. My youngest took 2nd in his Den and 4th overall. He wants to win next year. But on to Districts! Thanks again!

That's awesome! Congratulations.
People joke that the pinewood derby is more for the dad's than the kids. Truth is, it's for both. That plastic trophy and dad's undivided attention means the world to the kids. But seeing that smile and knowing we helped put it there means the world to the dads.

The smile speaks volumes!! You have taught your kids many life lessons. Some of which they don't even realize yet. Time spent with them building, teaching and especially bonding is priceless. Way to go both dad and boys!

Take some time to reflect with them about each step of the build. Review any pictures that you may have taken. Ask them what they were thinking at the point during the build. Work you way all thru the entire process. Even include pictures or videos that you may have taken race day. This will be a great way to reinforce what they have learned and an even better way to relive their successes with them. Again, WAY to GO!!!! :)

Yeah, my son put together a video using iMovie that included his pics and videos from the pinewood derby build. It's been a fun way for us to relive the memory and to share it with friends and family that couldn't be there. I think it also helped show how hard he worked on it.
