Weight Tape?

I gave a friend of mine some tungsten and aluminum ducting tape for his sons pinewood derby a few weeks ago. I looked at his car before the race it looked sealed he even wrapped a little over the top of the car.

The track was an older aluminum with a very short stop section that raised in the center of the lane but not much with a metal plate on the end to stop cars. the car was hitting the end of the stop section and it made the tape unseal and flop down stopping in the middle of the track. We added more tape and he finished the race but the added tape still sagging down. I'm not sure if I did this right or if I used the right tape

I don't see tape coming over the top of your cars at races. Did I use the wrong tape? what are people using to keep the weight in?

It sounds like you used the correct tape. I like to get all my testing complete then putt a new piece on. I don't like to peel and replace, peel and replace. I have had that happen in testing, so i use a new piece and have never had this happen. Sorry. Welcome to the forum.

Make sure the body is clean and not dusty also jackjaw, sawdust on the tape can impair the stickiness. I do wrap my tape around the back up onto the top 3/16-1/4". I usually secure the back two rows of cubes with a tiny dot of CA glue on each. Not too much in case I need to remove them someday.

The tape I use is the 3M version from lowes its for use on ducts but it is a metallic tape and extremely sticky. It's a pain to work with at times but I never glue any weights in place once this tape is applied properly nothing will come lose or move as long as you follow the suggestions posted already: must be a clean surface and if you have to peel any thing just replace the entire strip.

You could put double sided tape in the bottom of the weight pocket before putting the cubes in for extra hold. Similar to what Bracketracer does with CA glue.
