What are wheels made out of?

I have tested both the old and new style wheels. They are both polystyrene.
Although of different composition, I believe. Could be mistaken though. Just dropping them on a glass table top will allow you to hear the difference in density in the materials, although minute.

That could be true Chris, but I don't believe a mere 20 years would make a heck of a lot of difference in the world of plastics, especially if it does not see the light of day.

Ok... So if all of the PWD wheels are made of the same material, why are the red, orange and blue wheels slower than the black and yellow wheels?

I don't know. This is a predator bore. It looks like the surface of the moon and stands no chance at ever being polished.

Has to do with the negatively charged ions associated with certain colors as they react with certain types of aluminum. The properties of Aluminum include low density, high thermal conductivity, high electrical conductivity, high plasticity and high resistance to corrosion. The high plasticity promotes a chemical reaction. Some examples of a chemical reaction include most commonly burning, fermentation, tarnishing and rusting. In this specific case, red, orange and blue wheels react with the high high plasticity of aluminum causing heat, and ultimately warping the wheel.

Yeah,
I just thought that you put food coloring in the polish.
lol

You know how you can go to ten different restaurants and order a hamburger but each one tastes different even though they're all hamburgers? It's like that!
The wheels are all polystyrene, but there's different kinds of polystyrene.
Or it's what BRegal said I think. LOL

OK ... If I understand this right, each wheel color is a different type of polystyrene and some types of polystyrene is faster than others. That explains why racers are using black and yellow wheels. The polystyrene in the red, orange and blue wheels must not prep as well as the black and yellow wheels making them slower.

Now to figure out what to do with the orange and red wheels I have.
