So we race in a local club here where I live. Pretty typical rules, not real restrictive - traditional class and an outlaw class. The only thing that really stinks about it is the rules are graphite only, the last copy I got was actually revised to say dry lube only or all lube must be dry. Kinda thought it was strange that they revised the rules just to change the wording of that.
Anyway there is a family that races that always DOMINATES no matter what. Every race I think I may have something for them and every single race they are a few hundreths out on the fastest cars like clock work. Lately it is the general consensus around the club that they must be running oil. Now Im not one to jump to conclusions or point fingers infact Im pretty skeptical about just about everything Im not sure of, I dont want to accuse somebody of something that may not be true. That being said, when the cars are on the table Im always curious to inspect them closely (without touching them ofcousre) and their wheels and axles are always Super clean n shiny, no sign of graphite anywhere on the cars at all let alone around the hubs or wheels. If you look closely you can even see the lathe marks on the tread surface.
So last race Im starting be convinced that maybe something is not completely kosher. Now heres the strange thing, the race starts and as expected their three cars are a few hundreths out ahead of the rest of the feild as usual and the rest of the day goes as it typically does UNTIL the last three heats their cars start dropping time and slowing down like crazy. They became so slow that on the last or second to last heat I was able to nose out their slowest car. Oil shouldnt behave that way after 16 runs or so right?
Im interested in other peoples opinions, what do you guys think of this. I know if they were using oil it could have become contaminated or a thousand other things but I would like to hear what other people think of this?
