What to do in your Pinewood retirement? (warning: Pic intensive)

It was set "g" and not "gr" (grains), right?
hatfam, yes, the scale was set to "g" and not "gr". Thanks for checking though.

Might just need new batteries.
txchemist, you mean like this?

...just kidding! The scale has fresh batteries and is reading as accurately as one could hope (although this might be a discussion for another time /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif). I do not have nickels in my house, but I do have check weights (good thing my kids can't spend check weights!).

To answer your last question, if you want to enter it in the league I would go Street Stock. Only becuase you have the option of going in the Novice or Amateur class.

Okay here's a pre-race report. The den we graduated from got together to shake down the track, electronics and software. Only two boys brought their cars. So we got to bring them up to weight and tune them.

Bryce's car.

Ryan's car. It actually was covered in monokote until we ran it through the dimensional gauge we'll be using for pre-race inspections and found it was a tad too long. Off came the mono-kote and out came the belt sander!

And here's my car in full race trim (I need to remember to re-do the fairing...I think I see a wrinkle);

Here's some shots of the test runs on the much shortened track. Basically the ramp, the curve and the finish section.

Race day is Saturday! Hopefully a full report then.

Thank guys for the well wishes. I decided that since the gang here has been so friendly and generous with the help I would try to do something fun here. I'd like to run a contest that's sorta like Reverse Bracket Racing.
Race day is on Saturday. I'll be part of the crew setting up the track and running the derby. As mentioned earlier in this thread, we're done with Cub Pinewood, but I hope to be able to get in a few runs with this car before or after the derby;

My goal is to get in 5 runs. Post your best guess on the average time to three decimal places for the 5 runs (or however many it ends up being). Closest guess gets a prize (of my choosing).

Here's the relevant information; It's pretty much a Scout legal car. It's running on three wheels, and set up as a rail runner. It's got graphite, and scout legal wheels (well maybe not the NDFW that I burned while turning it and now has a bit of "texture" !). Right now my scale says it weigh's 4.92 oz (but we all know that's in question!) My hope is to weight it up to 5 oz. on the Pack scale on race day. In the interest of transparency, I have to tell you that one of the rear wheels and axles came off during the test runs on the shorty track. But it should be fixed by race day.

Track is a 42 ft Best Track. Champ Timer, manual gate, timer starts on a mechanical snap switch on the gate drop.

Entries close on Saturday evening 5pm PST.

OK, I'm going to bite. The thing is, will you need to add a bunch of weight? And is the track even level?
dazed

Your elevation is only 15 ft.- that puts you closer to the center of the earth BUT at your latitude, you are nearer a Houston track than a Utah track and that is a slower track due to the bulge of the earth moving you back out from the center of the earth. Similar humidity to Houston also.
hmmm

I'll say 3.070.

I used to be pretty good at bracket racing but I always had at least one time shot to start with. Going in blind I'm going to guess 3.050.

I probably should have looked up how you cut your wheels first, though! lol!

And is the track even level?
Hopefully it will be. Last year we did a pretty good job. We were just talking about how we were going to orient the track to maximize the viewing opportunities, but also to take advantage of the smoothest floor to allow us to level the track optimally. The pack has the risers and levelers.

I used to be pretty good at bracket racing but I always had at least one time shot to start with.
In retrospect, this is more like "The Price is Right" than bracket racing.

Here's what we have so far;

laserman 3.190
plhiatt 3.095
GravityX 3.084
PapaV Racing 3.075 sec
txchemist 3.070 sec
IAE Racing 3.060 sec
bracketracer 3.050 sec
E.T. Racing 3.035

Four (update to eight) entries so far. C'mon guys...no entry fee...you can't hurt my feelings because even I don't have a good guess (I'm just hoping she crosses the finish line nose forward).

I will say I just swapped out two of the axles including the DF because it didn't sound and roll to my satisfaction while tuning and I found a nick on one head
wah
.

HAHAHAH! LOL!

You are going to drive these guys nuts with this type of riddle!

I guess 3.190

LOL!!!

Ok how many times can we guess.... My number was as you can 3456 with a . in there... Mine was to be a funny ... No One got it......
pout

Ok so let's take a looky here ... You have graphite prep... car with coin weights & tape... hmmmm.. judging off what I saw in our pack I gonna go with
