we have done ext wheel base the last 2 years... and very happy with it. This year did rail rider...and again very happy with the results. What is the best wheel base setup for rail rider??

I've always thought to keep the car the full length 7". Is there any advantage to shortening the length of the car??

Wheelbase for a rail rider is usually between 4 1/2" and 5 1/4" with fenders.
Do NOT shorten the car. It will be slower!!

My Ext looks to be 5-1/2 on center. Any advantage to 4-1/2. Or placement of 4-1/2?

I like to study the archived race footage and watch the cars that do well and the ones that are unstable. You'll find common denominators of why cars are fast or slow. Wheel base is one of the factors but it depends on the build and class you run. I think this is a huge clue.,

I like 4 1/2 inch wheelbase..

For scouts I recommend 5" wheel bases for more stability on questionable tracks. I wouldnt go any longer than 5.25".

On meticulously maintained pro tracks you can go 4.75 or smaller.
